MW.

I'm glad my GF has a job that puts her off having children. She gets to experiment with them all day, and then hand them back to their parents.

Having kids is great. I wouldn't have passed it up for anything.

I will be sending my own two off to college in the next week or two. It sure will be quiet around here with an empty nest. "Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?"<i></i>

All joking aside, often my kids are the only people/things that keep me going. They are the greatest joy in life.

My little son's homeschooling started this morning. I sent him to his room for a nap about an hour ago. He had apparently secretly stayed up most of the night reading his new fantasy book. When he wakes up we'll get back to the Civil War. Chip off the old mommy block, that kid is. ******************************************************

Having three foster kids between 3 and 1 and a half is a great exercise regime! What do you guys think of the present Gen. Fantasy background? Too big? can't see enough of the dragon? (Zelazny fans sorry--if you like the brand new background I'll send it to Avatar for resizing if not I'll scrap it-sort of looks like Lou Diamond Phillips at first-but it's supposed to be Corwin) *****

Duchess. I too used to stay up late into the night, reading under the covers with a torch so nobody would see the light.

danlo, the background for fantasy is awesome. That dragon would make a great tattoo.

On my monitor, it's the perfect size. Fills the screen, no tiling (repeating) or scrolling.

Maybe on a black background though? Suddenly can't remember what colour the menu text etc. is. (Or change the text to a contrasting colour?)

(Edit: Oh, the text does contrast. (I still think a black background and white text would look better, but the important thing is that its readble.) ____________________________________

For those who have an aptitude for children, parenthood is surely a wonderful thing. I'm not one of those people.

Hey, danlo, hope your computer upgrades in September work out nicely for you. Dell monitors are supposed to be among the better ones out there. As I understand it, they're really just Sony Trinitron units in disguise, which is why they're so good.

A monitor upgrade is moving up on my list of priorities, too. I'm encouraged that it's now possible to get a nice big 19" LCD display for a lower price than what my 17" CRT cost back in 1998. <i></i>

Tomorrow I will be leaving on vacation for a week and a half. We will visit friends and then drop my son off at college this weekend. Foamy, the hubby and I will spend a week chilling out in Lancaster, PA, where we use to vacation when the kids were little. Foamy would like to re-visit all her old haunts. After that, we will be driving Foamy up to college and coming home to our empty nest.

See you guys around the Thursday or Friday after Labor Day. "Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?"<i></i>

Have a great vacation, MsMary! Haven't seen Foamy around the Watch for a long time. So young and already nostalgic, eh? Sounds like me. <i></i>

Have fun Ms. M!!! I scraped the Zelazny background--almost anything there makes the whole thing look too busy. Can you guys tell that that's supposed to be a dragon in Gen. Fantasy?

wow 21 daily posts and over 400 visits yesterday--you can't tell me the funky little blog I set up on Xanga is responsible for all those added visits!!?? These are Hangar records y'all! *****

Travel safely MsMary.

Yeah danlo, but we're still the only ones posting.

Seriously, the dragon is cool. (And it doesn't work on a black background, mores the pity. (I tried. ) ).

Well, at least this is one hurricaine MsMary will miss.

Sheesh, I am tired tonight. And I have to go get my son's history lesson together for the morning. The kid is like a monstrous sponge who immediately absorbs everything I toss at him, and begs for more.

So we have finshed the book which was an overview of the Civil War. He is in the middle of the book I gave him to supplement that book, the wonderful historical novel Gods and Generals. We are in the middle of watching the wonderful Ken Burns documentary miniseries, The Civil War. Tomorrow we will read some of Walt Whitman's poems that he wrote during the Civil War and to mourn Lincoln's death. We will also read one of the two Civil War chapters in the very fun historical book called What If??? where the world's leading historians look at turning points in world history and ask how things might have shaken out if things had gone a bit differently. Then we will start a great little book called April, 1865 - The Month That Saved America.

All this and we are halfway through The Iliad, storming right along in astronomy, and have gotten a chapter of algebra nearly done.

No wonder I am tired.

Good thing I have a long weekend and visit to my older son coming up!!! ******************************************************

"Oh Captain, my captain/This fearful voyage is done..." ? I like Whitman a lot. Although not that one so much.

Sure sounds like you're busy though. But a happy busy I think.

"Captain! My Captain!" is one of them, as well as my favorite of his wartime poems, "Beat! Beat! Drums!". You can actually hear the terrible drums and trumpets calling - compelling everyone to come and join the war. ******************************************************

Yeah, he was a very...visceral sort of poet. Not familiar with that one though.

He's got some great quotes. I like especially the one about why not speak to passing strangers if you want.
