I'm on the third book now, and they are pretty fun. There are three main characters - Vicky, once the brightest homicide detective in Toronto until an incurable eye disease forced her retiremement, now working as a private eye. You have her sometimes lover Mike, who still works as a homicide detective for the police force. You have Henry Fitzroy, the charming and handsome bisexual bastard son of Henry VIII, who is a vampire, and sometimes Vicky's lover. Though he is a vampire, he is also a great guy, and quite a hero. :hearts: He works as a writer as bodice ripper romance novels.   His other lover is Tony, a street smart kid, who is Vicky's friend. :)

In the first book Vicky is investigating a series of murders where the victims are being drained of blood. She meets Henry because he is pissed off that someone is doing that in his city. Vicky, Mike, and Henry have to work together to stop the killings.

In the second book, Henry, Vicky, and Mike help out a family of werewolves who live near London, Ontario. All the werewolves want is to live peacefully on their sheep farm. But somone has discovered their secret and is killing them, one by one. The werewolves are charming and fun! :hearts:

I have just started the third book, but it looks like it will be about mummies at the ROM (a museum which I love). :hearts:

I did not know about a TV show - I will have to check that out! :happyrun:

I've been reading Joe Abercrombie's The Blade Itself and been loving it. He had me reeled in within the first fifteen pages. :) Both gritty and funny, written really tongue-in-cheek. 8)

So far it has been following three main characters - a barbarian warrior, a foppish and shallow nobleman, and a crippled torturer. :) 8)

Having devoured and absolutely enjoyed Joe Abercrombie's The Blade Itself, I am about to start Carrie Vaughn's Kitty and the Silver Bullet, fourth in her Kitty Norville series about a young werewolf. :wolf:

Brian Ruckley's Winterbirth, first in his Godless World Trilogy. very very good, and deserving its own thread when/if I get a bit more time. 8)

Started reading the much hyped Scott Lynch book The Lies of Locke Lamora this morning. So far it is...cute. A cute fantasy version of a heist movie. Only a chapter in, so far, so maybe it will change quite a bit before the end. :?

As soon as I find a bit more time, I will be reading Emma Bull's Territory. It is supposedly a mixture of fantasy and western and historical fiction, set in Tombstone, Arizona in the 1880's and including the Gunfight at the OK Coral.

I had not gotten started with the Emma Bull, and today Joe Abercrombie's Before They Are Hanged arrived. SO now that will be the next fantasy I read, followed by Territory.

Yeah, BABY - now I can get a Glotka fix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wee:

Finished up Emma Bull's Territory which was a great mixture of western and fantasy. :) It's the first part of a duology, and I cannot wait for the second part to come out. 8)

Now reading the latest by Kim Harrison, The Outlaw Demon Wails. Will probably also reread Harry Potter 4 soon. 8)

Tried to read some Sherrilyn Kenyon, but it was terrible. Poorly written urban fantasy filled with half baked ancient history and mythology, and lots of sex with guys so well endowed I would scream and run for my life if I saw something like that coming my way.   (Sometimes average is just fine, thanks.  )

I now need brain bleach.

To cleanse my poor brain, I am now reading some of the best historical fantasy ever written - David Gemmel. :hearts:

Having finished the Gemmell (which was first rate, by the way - his Troy trilogy are among the best historical fantasy I've ever read), I have moved on to Kushiel's Justice by Jackie Carey. :)

Lavinia by Ursula K. LeGuin, a beautiful and hauntingly sad historical fantasy about the Latin second wife of Aeneas, legendary Trojan prince and founder of Rome.

Dragons of Spring Dawning, last of the Dragonlance Chronicles. (The GF has just finally read them, so they're here and I reread them for fun. :D )
