I'm on the third book now, and they are pretty fun. There are three main characters - Vicky, once the brightest homicide detective in Toronto until an incurable eye disease forced her retiremement, now working as a private eye. You have her sometimes lover Mike, who still works as a homicide detective for the police force. You have Henry Fitzroy, the charming and handsome bisexual bastard son of Henry VIII, who is a vampire, and sometimes Vicky's lover. Though he is a vampire, he is also a great guy, and quite a hero.

He works as a writer as bodice ripper romance novels.

His other lover is Tony, a street smart kid, who is Vicky's friend.
In the first book Vicky is investigating a series of murders where the victims are being drained of blood. She meets Henry because he is pissed off that someone is doing that in
his city. Vicky, Mike, and Henry have to work together to stop the killings.
In the second book, Henry, Vicky, and Mike help out a family of werewolves who live near London, Ontario. All the werewolves want is to live peacefully on their sheep farm. But somone has discovered their secret and is killing them, one by one. The werewolves are charming and fun!
I have just started the third book, but it looks like it will be about mummies at the ROM (a museum which I love).
I did not know about a TV show - I will have to check that out!
