Well, as I posted in the Martin forum last night, he has updated his website and he hopes to be done with A Feast For Crows by the end of the year. I'm not sure how long it will take before we get the book in the stores after that, though...
A thread was started about Jordan recently here, sounds like he's taking a bit of a break from WOT, he has expanded his short story from Legends into a novel and that will be his next release. He's been working on that series for many years now, so hopefully the break will reenergize his work...
I recently read The Curse of Chalion and thought it was a good read. It involves a curse on a royal family, the attempts of a broken man to come to grips with his life, and involves an interesting magic system that involves gods and demons...there is a loosely tied-in sequel, following one of the minor characters, but it certainly doesn't seem to be a series -- both books stand, more or less, completely on their own...and they have a nice Spanish flavor to them, unusual in fantasy. ******************************************************

Perhaps I'll come for you myself some night. You ought to see me...my fur is white now, pale as snow, but the stature, the majesty, the power, those have not left me...We are the direwolves, the nightmares who haunt your racial memories, the dark shapes circling endlessly beyond the light of your fires.~George R.R.
