Greetings all!!
I have been seriously MIA lately.
Glad to see all of you still bumping around.

I'm with you Duchess (((( La., Mi., Al.))))

My wife has started a relief effort in our town to collect needed health care kits - wash cloth, soap, shampoo, bandaid, etc. something small, but what everyone needs.

Blessings to all who where affected....

Took the advancement exam today. Not exactly happy with it (won't know the results until Noverember-ish), but at least it's over. Been studying my ass off for that thing. If I advance off this test... yeah, more money, I stay in. If I don't, then I very well could be getting out of the navy under High Year Tenure (8 years to make e-5). That's not exactly a bad thing, since it comes with separation pay and the Navy thing isn't exactly something I want to do full time for the next 12 years. ________________

So, yesterday morning I went to the doctor to see how well my broken, dislocated toe was healing.

The answer was: not well. (The doctor said I had done a "good job" of messing it up.)

The solution: by 3:30pm yesterday I was in the OR having a pin put in it to align it properly. By last night I was home.

Funny thing: both the anesthesiologist and the circulating nurse in the OR recognized me. The anesthesiologist has worked in two of the hospitals I have worked in, and the circulating nurse was in nursing school with me.

Hope everyone is doing well. Hope you did well on your test, Syl. "Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?"<i></i>

I hope you heal rapidly, and can be dancing again soon!

Syl, I hope you did well on your test. I work with this guy who was in the army medical reserves for twenty or so years. The last couple of years he was in, he was taking all sorts of classes every chance he got, so he could go up one rank in the allotted time, and stay in until he got in his twenty (20 years and you can retire). Apparently these days you have to advance periodically or you have to leave or something like that? Did I even understand that explanation correctly, Syl?

I am living day to day right now. They have been slowly calling people from my hospital up and deploying them down south. Last weekend two police officers were sent to New Orleans, this weekend two more will be sent, as well as a nurse who specializes in caring for surgical patients. We get two days notice before we are flown out...so there's really not much point in making any sorts of plans, either immediate or for the next few months.

Unfortunately, at this point in time I would not be able to pass my physical (they make you pass a physical before they let you get on the plane). I helped my husband and kids do some yardwork on Monday. I thought the first couple of itchy bumps on my hands were mosquito bites. By Tuesday night I was covered with hives, some as big as welts and look like big bruises with zits on them. I finally broke down and went to the doctor today and I have a really bad case of contact dermatitis. She changed me to a more powerful antihistamine than my usual claritin, and put me on a topical steroid. If the stupid hives aren't gone in a week I have to go back and be put on prednisone. Some of the worst ones are high up on my inner thighs, so she said I am in very high danger of also getting a nasty yeast infection going on my legs. She said there's no way in the world I can be deployed until the hives clear up! :"> ******************************************************

Well, while I am still somewhat hivey, the worst of them, the ones on my upper legs are starting to clear up. Thank God, those hurt as well as itched. So I am hoping that I am on the mend. So maybe I can be deployed if my name pops up on the list after all.

Sadly, my friend's father, who I have mentioned in previous posts, did pass away two weeks ago. I realized I hadn't said anything about it while reading some of the older posts on this page. He lasted less than a month after he drove himself to the doctor's office to be checked out for a nagging cough. She's doing OK, though. I visited with her for awhile last night, and might go out to lunch with her before work on Thursday. We will also be going to a Detroit Tigers game later this month (as long as I am not sent south in the meantime). <i>Edited by: Duchess of Malfi at: 9/13/05 11:01 pm

How's everyone doing?

I am hanging in here, still hobbling around and trying to recover from my broken, dislocated toe and the surgery I had to repair it. I'm a bit bored, and sore from the inactivity, but hanging in there.

I just finished putting a bunch of bottles of water in the freezer, and making other preparations for the approach of Hurricane Rita. It looks like it will pass us to the south, but it's a big storm and we will be getting the "dirty" edge of it, so I expect lots of wind, rain, and a probable power outage.

Hope everyone is okay! "Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?"<i></i>

Sorry to hear that, Earthy. The loss of a pet is always sad, but especially one that has been your companion for many years. "Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?"<i></i>

MsMary -- I hope that you will come out of the hurricane just fine. There's been too many of those storms this year! ******************************************************

I'm so sorry Earthy! You know you know how I feel-may your pup's spirit have many happy trails! Hurricanes suck-duck or swim, or something! (I didn't mean your football team--but, damm...well, you know what I mean... ) *****

She's in a better place now....

Not to trivialize the devastation from these hurricanes, but I'll take my 24" of snow over 24" of rain & 100 mph winds ANY DAY!

Prayers & good vibes to all who have been hammered by these hurricanes .... Cripple but free; I was blind all the time I was learning to see<i></i>

So, how's everyone doing?

I am still hanging around the house, not working, waiting for my foot to heal. No time to shop for a replacement car yet, either. My foot is better, though. Now I can walk around the house without crutches, most of the time, though I am still wearing a surgical shoe.

My son has been off on a trip all by himself this week, visiting his top college choices to decide if he wants to apply early decision at one of them. Over the weekend, he went on a retreat with the service group that he spent the summer with in Honduras. He'll be home today.

I'll be off to Orlando tomorrow afternoon, after my checkup with the podiatrist, to attend a conference. Hope I'll manage okay on my gimpy foot.

Hope everyone is doing okay. "Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?"<i></i>
