Hey Earthy!

I really haven't been around much lately and can't stay. Gods what a sucky birthday today is turning into--I've got a 20 page paper due Friday morning and a virus shut down my comp so I've just finished a factory restore and got my DSL up and running again. That's what I get for not putting Lavaware (firewall) and Norton up during my last restore. I guess I'll do that when I get back from NY. So here's what's happening with me--between now and Friday morn I'm totally committed to my word processor (which, of course doesn't work unless I'm connected to the internet). Then I'm probably sleeping most of Friday, cause I'm sure to pull another allnighter Thursday PM/Friday AM. Then I'm off to NYC to visit my parents and other nuts from KW and here including Fist and duchy. I'll try to get on my parents comp and say hello, but I'll be busy, I come back late Sunday the 7th and school (public school or work) starts the 8th.

Grad school has been busting my ass to the bone this summer I took the 2 hardest courses one I took because I really wanted to teach the skills in my class and the other looked like 518 on paper--but's it's really 593 (my god it's kicking my ass!!), and you've got to be fairly established in teaching have an understanding of the material--you need at least 3 semesters experience and I only have 1!

So I'll see you when I can I HAVE to get straight to work...at least the comps working again. *****

Happy Birthday Danlo!

A quiet, peaceful, afternoon here. Checking things out while the cat snoozes in front of the monitor. <i></i>

I never made it down to Key West, in spite of all intentions to do so.

I worked Thursday night, 12 hour shift, came home Friday morning, finished packing, and caught a 3 hour nap. At about 1pm, we started driving south, me, Foamy and my husband, with my husband (who had gotten a full nights' sleep) in the driver's seat.

We got as far as the top of the Keys, heading into Key Largo, and then got caught in the middle of a five-car pile-up in a construction zone. The traffic was stopped to wait for construction traffic for a long time, about 20-30 minutes, and I guess people got impatient. Traffic started moving in fits and starts. We were stopped when the 4th car behind us, a Ford SUV, plowed into the Mercedes in front of him and started a chain reaction. (The driver of the Ford told us it was his fault, but I don't think he told the police that, as he doesn't appear to have been given a ticket - we'll know for sure when we get the accident report.) The truck behind us plowed right over the bumper of our little Mazda Protege and crushed the trunk cover. We hit the SUV in front of us, which sustained a small scratch, but dented our hood considerably.

The accident took place about 3:30pm. We waited 2 hours and 15 minutes in the hot sun for the highway patrol to come and interview everyone and write out the accident report. While we were waiting, the driver of the truck behind us yanked off the hanging cosmetic part of our bumper and stuffed it in our trunk. He then produced two pieces of rope and tied down our trunk cover and our hood, so that we could drive home. He also told the woman in front of us, who was annoyed at the waiting, that she could be annoyed all she wanted that we had hit her, but it wasn't our fault, it was the fault of the guy in back.

When the police was finished with eveyone, and the last 2 cars were towed away, we determined that our car would run - in fact, the mechanics of the car weren't damaged at all - and we turned around and drove home. We had just enough time to throw together a bean and rice salad for dinner before the start of the Jewish Sabbath, and then collapse from exhaustion.

All in all, a depressing weekend. It looks like I will have to come up with a new car, and it will be a problem to get to work in the meantime. My car was so old anyway, a 1991, I am sure the insurance company will total it rather than fix it. And we just put $1000 worth of repairs into it - might as well have flushed the money down the toilet.

So much for my weekend in Key West... "Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?"<i></i>

Dang! That really sucks MsM! Sorry! So far everything's great in New York-I really needed this vacation from my vacation sealevel and humidity don't agree with me, but I'm having too much fun to notice. But water's cool! You know what? There's tons of water here! Amazing--I was here 3 years ago but NM's always so dry that REAL rivers always amaze me (oh year and there's this humongous ocean nearby too . *****

Someday when the babies are older, Danlo, you and your Lady and the boys will have to come up here and go on a nice long camping trip with us next to one of the Great Lakes.

MsMary -- oh Lord, car troubles and accidents stink. The main thing is -- no one in your family was hurt!!! Thank God for that!!! But, oh man -- I hope the insurance does its thing rapidly so you can find a new set of wheels right away!!! ******************************************************

Hope people's vacations turned out well.

We are still waiting for the insurance adjustor to appraise our car. In the meantime, my husband priced the cost to repair it and decided it is not worth it for such an old car. So we will be looking for a new used car. It has been a problem for me to get to work, and I don't know how long it will take us to find a new car. This week, thankfully, I am borrowing my sister's old car, while her son is in Colorado and not using it.

On the positive news front, my son is coming home today from his service trip to Honduras. "Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?"<i></i>

My vacation has been quite wonderful so far. Anytime spent with Danlo and Fisty is time well spent. And dlbpharmd is a sweetie, and he fit right in like a long lost brother.

Running around Manhattan with those guys was a lot of fun. I got to tour Sunnyside, the historic estate of Washington Irving, on the lovely Hudson River, with Danlo, and that was really nice.

Yesterday I explored part of the Delaware Water Gap National Park with Fist in a heavy rain. We got soaked, but it was well worth it, seeing all of the waterfalls. Glorious!! Damelon should have been there -- he would have taken dozens and dozens of pictures. ******************************************************

I'm a dunce. I had no idea this little shindig was at the beginning of the month. I was thinking it was closer to the end. *shrug* *sigh* next time... maybe. ________________

I hope you can make the next one, Syl.

It was a great time, and Fist was a perfect host. It was wonderful seeing him and Danlo again, and meeting dlbpharmd.

We made it in late last night, and I hope to make a few posts later tonight after I get a bit more housework done. ******************************************************
