That does sound very cool! If I ever get a chance to go to Europe, I will have to remember that. ******************************************************

Um...how come the last post I can see on this thread is from 2004? Did this thread get too long and freak out the forum software? "Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?"<i></i>

Wow, I didn't even notice that. I thought we were missing a month or so of posts, not more than a year!!

There seems to be some sort of nasty ezboard bug/problem eating posts, threads, and in the case of the Dune group read, an entire forum.

Well, the missing posts will either come back to us or not...and in the meantime, I will try to get things moving in here again.

Here is the story of my trip last week (what I would have typed in if the board/system hadn't been hacked last week.

From my blog:
Quote:
What a nice weekend we had.

On Friday we drove down to the Dayton, Ohio area. The hotel messed up our reservation, or perhaps was just plain overbooked. They gave us a room with one bed, though I had booked one on-line with two, and there are four of us, of course. To add to the injury, they had no other rooms available, and they charged us extra for a cot. So Bigredbulldog got the cot, and Mr. Sunshine ended up sleeping in a chair. And the smoke detector was covered with little green blinking lights, and looked like a UFO coming in for a landing all night long. And no one could sleep because the room was stiflingly hot and the air conditioner was not working well and you couldn't open a window. So that night was a stinker , but the rest of the weekend was wonderful.

We drove on to the Kentucky mountains on Saturday. The state park offered us a very private cabin, down about sixty steps from the others, on a side of a cliff. We gladly took it. It was peaceful and quiet, and the covered front porch (complete with rocking chairs) overlooked the hill down, complete with a bridal path. It was pleasant hearing the music of the horses' hoofs. We also had a private trail going down and joining the foot path to the Cumberland River. Most of the path was a very steep staircase down the face of a sheer cliff down to the River. It was about 1/4 mile to the River, most of it straight down. But when you got there, it was lovely. You could sit on huge boulders next to the water and watch the kayakers and canoeists passing by. Very peaceful, and you could hear the roaring of the Falls around a big bend downstream.

The cabin had three beds, much to the joy of the kids. It also had the heavenly covered porch, a fully equipped kitchen, and barbacue grill, and a living room with fireplace and cable color TV. Nice way to rough it! And all for less than $100 night. Cheaper -- and far, far nicer than a lot of hotel rooms. It also has central air, but we never needed it. We just opened the windows and let in the cool, sweet mountain air. It was like breathing in heaven.

On Saturday we just rested, other than going to the grocery store and buying some food for the weekend. We had a lot of sleep to catch up on from the night before. Californiababy and Mr. Sunshine did walk down to the River, and reported on how lovely it was. After dinner, we fell alseep to the distant roar of the Falls, and the hootings of owls.

On Sunday morning we visited the Falls, which were beautiful, and walked on trails along the River. Mr. Sunshine earned a new nickname, SpiderMan , due to his climbing all over boulders as big as houses, and exploring little caves along the trail. Wonderful for an athletic, curious 12 year old boy. We then ate lunch at the Lodge. Bigredbulldog especially enjoyed his Kentucky Hot Brown sandwich. The dining room of the Lodge overlooked the River and its canyon. A ledge outside contained many bird feeders and flowers. As you ate, you could see all of the birds coming to the feeders -- along with squirrels, chipmunks, and a raccoon (much to the delight of all of the children in the dining room). We then went back to the cabin, and I walked with Californiababy and Mr. Sunshine down to the River. It was peaceful and lovely sitting next to the water. After dinner, we fell alseep to the music of the Falls, the owls, and singing of a pack of coyotes running through the forest.

On Monday we packed up and checked out. We visited the Falls again, then took a scenic drive through the National Forest. It was beautiful. We then drove home, stopping off for dinner at an Olive Garden in Lima, Ohio.

The weekend was restful and totally relaxing. I have not seen Californiababy that energized and happy in years. It has been so long, in fact, that I cannot even remember when I last saw him like that. Bigredbulldog spent an average of 12-16 hours sleeping per day, and eating large, healthy meals. He quite obviously felt the best he has since he as a child, the best in about six years. Mr. Sunshine spent time exploring and being very physically active, and otherwise spent hours drawing and listening to music. He was happy, feisty, spirited. I relaxed, slept, listened to music, read. Loved sitting by the River and taking pictures of the mountains and Cumberland Falls. I think this is the best I have felt since shortly before my father got sick and passed away.

Wonderful weekend.

Sounds like you had a nice trip, duchess.

We have been keeping busy.

Have I mentioned my new job? I am working per diem as a mother-baby nurse at a nearby hospital, and it is working out alright, so far.

My mom is home and doing ok after having the repair of a fractured vertebra.

My son, being a junior in high school, has been going nuts studying for AP exams, finals, and various college boards, at the same time as he was working on his thespian group's 4th and final play of the school year. The thespian troupe wrapped up with an awards ceremony last night, at which Shlomo received an honor bar for 600 hours of service to the theatre program, a trophy for "Extraordinary Achievement in the Theatre Arts," and a special tshirt given to the 7 students who participated in all 4 shows this year. It's a very cute shirt, with the logos of each of the plays on it.

Foamy is home from college and has been relaxing and hanging out with friends. She is starting a job at a summer day camp next week.

That's it for now. "Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?"<i></i>

Good news about your Mom and your kids, MsMary. And that your new job is working out -- that's good news, too!

I bet you must be very happy to have Foamy home.

It's turned unseasonably hot and humid here -- all week its been pushing 90 and very humid -- it's like the worst part of the summer, all at once and two months early! On the other hand, its good weather to go to the Dairy Barn for ice cream.

I hope it will get back down to normal temperatures soon.

Yesterday was the last day of the school year for my kids. They are both happy about that! This morning I got to watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail with them. ******************************************************

I desperately want to see Spamalot the Eric Idle musical that just won the Tony! What am I doing? Er...nothing, taking care of the boyz, playing with Adrian and watching Learning with Pooh , barely getting over this horrid sinus-flu that's hung around for days and knee-they flare up every month or so--due do eons of basketball. I finished my first week of 2 hours classes a day, for 4 weeks--but now I'll really better get to work on my group project, individual project and oral exam. It's, actually, extremely interesting for my present teaching assisignment: Social Skills and Self Determination for Behaviorally Disturbed students. In fact, my Prof., Dr. Serna, is one of the leading national proponents on Self Determination: lot's of role-playing, goal setting and positive reinforcement.

My individual project is a mega data collection of a 3 week exercise requiem I'm putting myself on (which is very tough to start with this *%#@ flu!). If I can walk the dog 20minutes a day I'll be happy! . What else--watched Shall We dance last night--very good. Rereading Claw of the Conciliator and enjoying it-we just finished dissecting all of Mordant's Need at Kevin's Watch. Well Adrian's getting hungry and I must call my Mom...later! *****

I love Shall We Dance.

I worked six days last week, two of them with a short staff, so I'm still pretty tired. Took Mr. Sunshine to watch Star Wars again yesterday, if I'm up to it, might go see Cinderella man with Californiababy tonight...mainly doing lots of laundry today, because I can't do yardwork (thunderstorms) and my older son will be leaving for the school trip to Europe next weekend! I have to make sure he has enough clean underwear to pack.

So I'm just kind of hanging in there today, getting as much done as my tired and annoying body will let me do without falling asleep. ******************************************************

We did not go see Cinderella Man last night, as Californiababy had spent the very hot & humid day at a charity golf outing, and came home and collapsed and slept for about 12 hours.

Time so start another work week. I just hope we have full staffing... ******************************************************

I just wanted you guys to know I might not be around much (either here or the Watch) for a few days. My older son is off on his school trip to Europe early next week, and we'll be pretty busy getting ready for that.

I'll probably briefly pop in here and there, but probably no serious posting for a few days.

I hope when I get back next week, after he leaves, that our missing threads and posts will be back!!!!!! <i></i>
