What do you guys consider the first day of spring, Av? 1 September?

Yep. 1st of September is Spring Day. It's the only season we have a day for. :D

Is it a holiday? <ali asked hopefully>

The first Monday of September is our Labor Day holiday. But our first day of fall isn't 'til the equinox, later in the month. Have we had this conversation? It seems familiar somehow...

A bit of cross-over from the Watch I think

Spring here is 1 September, and no holiday.

Winter has been pretty good so far (touch wood). Temps generally around 15C, no rain, lots of sun, and overnight temps around 5C. Only a couple of frosty mornings. Still, August is usually our worst month for winter...

July is our worst. Seem to be over the worst of it though. Daytime highs hitting 20°C this week, first time in ages. Morning temps still a little chilly, 0-5. (It's the altitude...I'm about 1,700m (5,500 feet) above sea level. (See, I converted it for you. ;) )

We have maybe 3 months of winter a year.

Work has been even more stressful than usual lately, which is why I have not been on line as much as usual. No emotional or physical energy right now. My service chief has been relieved of duty (or will be in October) and will be transferred into a job which has no supervisory capacity. Which is good, because he was awful. But he was awful because he lets my terrible supervisor run amok and abuse employees, which drags down morale and so people are making terrible and dangerous mistakes (as well as doing awful things like pooping on the floor). So we are waiting breathlessly to see what will happen to the terrible supervisor and his main minion, who is even worse than he is.

I hate how the government never fires incompetent managers - they just give them lateral transfers.   Regular line employees are occasionally fired but never terrible managers.

Sounds like you might have spring fever, Av. ;) And thanks for the conversion, btw -- you're just a little higher than the city of Denver.

I've finally nailed down Magickmaker as to when she wants/needs to go back to school. She's got an unrelated event in Roanoke on the 23rd but can't get into the dorms 'til the 29th. There was some back-and-forth about her staying down there and storing all her stuff somewhere, but then she'd have to get friends (who would be moving in themselves) to help her haul her stuff to the dorm. It was just going to be a mess. Anyway, bottom line is that she's going to take Greyhound to and from the event on the 23rd, and the timing means I don't have to take off the first part of that week. So I'm going to start my vacation on Thursday the 26th and be out through Labor Day (Sept. 6). 8)

Thanks, duchess. I am really feeling the pre-vacation ennui right now. I've got a bunch of client bills to take care of and have zero interest in doing them. I should also be trying to fetch hotel receipts for my attorney so I can do his expense vouchers, and I'm not feeling it for that chore, either. And I've got another week and a half to go before vacation. <sigh>

Yes I'm up at 4:30 in the morning as I'm nervous as hell. As President of the PTA of my daughter's school I invested 400.00 plus on 72 school T-shirts that I don't have and have to start selling them at 7:30 this morning, the first day of school. I'm sure I can do it, it's just keeping me up. Hopefully I won't be too obnoxious with the staff and the teachers when I leave my outside table and go into the classrooms to show off the shirt and try to send fliers home with the kids.
