Back online -- didya miss me?

The DSL modem finally died during the move -- could not get online with it at all here in the new place. So today I bit the bullet and went over to Best Buy to get a new one. Voila, I'm online again.

In the best of all possible worlds (i.e., someone else is paying for my move), I'd hire someone to pack/unpack as well, without hesitation. Unfortunately, nobody's ponying up for this move for me, so not only did I have to pack my own stuff but I also drove the truck....
In the end, it was fine. I reserved a too-small truck, so stuff really got crammed in there and some items were damaged. But I'm not blaming the movers for that -- they were trying to shoehorn all my stuff in. As it was, I left a bunch of the furniture behind -- which is okay, actually, because the stuff was worn out and I was thinking about replacing it anyhow. Just maybe not quite this soon.... No, it's fine. The couch was worn out, and my mattress set was 15 years old. I did save the kids' twin-size mattresses, and the gods know they're not using them right now

, so I've got a (somewhat narrower) place to sleep, and I'm going to get a daybed for the living room to replace the couch.
I've still got a very few things at the old place, but I'm paid thru the end of the month there so it's no big deal -- just have to get up the interest and energy to drive back out there (ugh). And unpacking is proceeding here. The kitchen and living room are done. I've still gotta set up my bedroom and the curio cabinet in the dining room.
Best of all, my commute on Friday was only half an hour. Woot!

And oh yeah, I know about hoarders. My mom kept *every*thing. Sorting through her house after she died was a nightmare. I swore that I wouldn't do that. I'm pretty good about purging, but it's funny how stuff piles up anyhow....
