Started Jhereg by Steven Brust, first book in the Vlad Thantos series--pretty cool so far--the world is fairly similar to Brokedown Palace--I thought the dragons would be goofy but they're Jheregs and very snaky and wicked. Published in '83!? Wow I didn't know his work was so old!!!!

Gene Wolfe, Nightside of the Long Sun, 1st book of the Long Sun. Really excellent. Wish I had the others.

After Claw is Sword of the Lictor, then Citadel of the Autarch. Then there's a coda, Urth of the New Sun, set 10 years after Citadel.

My first try, and I've only got the first book right now. Was annoyed/disappointed by the sudden conversion to christianity though.

Well, you know as a Jew I felt the same at first.
But this is Arthurian legend we're talking about here...
What with the search for the Grail, et. al., Chr-stianity's influence has to be explained, yes?

I haven't read much Lawhead -- I should check the used bookstore the next time I'm there.

Finished the latest "Outlander" book, An Echo in the Bone, over the weekend. It was...okay. I think her inventiveness is running a little thin -- it seemed to be kind of an effort for her to stretch things out into yet one more book. I suppose she'll have to wrap things up eventually -- I mean, Jamie and Claire aren't immortal, they've gotta die sometime....

IIRC, the Chr-stian aspect really gets called in to question in the next book, Merlin. Which is by far the best in the series, in my opinion. But I don't want to say more until you've read it...

The sudden Christianity irked me a little at first too, but the whole Christian thing becomes quite important (though fortunately not overbearingly so) and is generally handled much better as time goes on. Myrddin's relationship with his faith is more convincing to me than Taliesin's.
