A sad, if inevitable, event. Like all of us, I guess I've been preparing myself for this over the last few months. I'm so glad she had christmas with her family.

We'll miss you Furls.

Thanks for posting that, Stevie. It reminds me that Furls was able to take simple (not "simplistic") joy in reading SRD's works; I think we as Donaldson readers sometimes forget that pleasure because we're so caught up in criticizing his writing in every detail.

Really kind of down today. On top of Furls passing, a coworker committed suicide over the weekend. Like Furls, he left behind young children. My heart is bleeding for their kids. Obviously, Furls could not help passing away and fought as hard and long as a person can possibly fight - but this guy probably couldn't either, as he had already tried to kill himself once in early December, and had been hospitalized for most of that month. Mental illness is a damned difficult thing to treat. :( The first time he tried he thought better of it and got help. This time... :cry:

This is the third time a co-worker has killed him/herself in my department in the last twelve or so years. :( Sadly, we know the routine now - when we see the shrinks coming in with the department chiefs and supervisors we scatter and hide so as not to have to deal with the death meeting. :(

Sad to hear, duchess. For those of us who've never been in that situation, it's difficult to fathom the level of anguish or pain that would make a person take his own life. Yeah, you do wonder how this will mess up the guy's kids.

Yeah, always sad when somebody can't conceive of things ever becoming better again. I suppose it's their life and their choice, but you can't help feeling sorry for the people left behind. :(

Well, back at work...quite nice starting on a thursday...couple of days to get used to it, then a weekend again. (Thank the gods.)

ali, that sounds like a lot of rigmarole, but I guess a sabbatical is more than your typical holiday. Good luck!

Since coming back from Xmas break, it's been 9 to 5 in the warehouse for me, where much of the office furniture is being stored for now, until our new building is finally ready to be occupied. My job is to label (or rather, re-label) everything for the final move. While our warehouse isn't quite as monstrously filled as the one in the final shot of Raiders of the Lost Ark, it's still a helluva job to sort it all out.

Suggestion: if your company ever decides to relocate, NEVER do a staggered move. Do it all in one mass exodus and get it over with. Our organization isn't particularly big for what it does, but it's still been, at times, a comedy of errors trying to coordinate with staff all over the place.

How lucky can one guy be;
I kissed her and she kissed me
Like the fella once said,
Ain't that a kick in the head?
The room was completely black
I hugged her and she hugged back.
Like the sailor said, quote,
"Ain't that a hole in the boat?"
My head keeps spinning;
I go to sleep and keep grinning;
If this is just the beginning,
My life's gonna be beautiful.
I've sun- shine enough to spread;
It's like the fella said,
"Tell me quick
Ain't love like a kick in the head?"

Like the fella once said,
Ain't that a kick in the head?

Like the sailor said, quote,
"Ain't that a hole in the boat?"
My head keeps spinning;
I go to sleep and keep grinning;
If this is just the beginning,
My life's gonna be beautiful.
She's telling me we'll be wed;
She's picked out a king size bed.
I couldn't feel any better or I'd be sick;
Tell me quick, oh ain't love a kick?
Tell me quick, ain't love a kick in the head?

Happiness

Sheesh, moving house is bad enough...moving your office twice in a row...

When our firm moved to our present location a few years back, we hired a company to coordinate the move. They recruited firm employees to go around prior to moving day and make sure the lawyers had stuck the preprinted labels in the proper places on all their furniture and had emptied all the office supplies and whatnot from their desk drawers into the handy-dandy plastic bins.

Of course, I volunteered. :roll:

I walked into one partner's office. Nice guy, seemed organized enough. So I says to him, I says, "Hi, are you all ready for the move?" And he says, "Yes." And I look around and say, "Did you put stickers on your furniture?" and he says, "Do I have to do that?" And then I say, "Did you pack up your crates?" and he says, "No, do I have to do that?" And then I say, "Let me go talk to your secretary." And *she* says, "Don't worry about it, I'll do it all for him."

See, this is why we get paid the big bucks. :lol:
