I have been finishing up completed series. Daniel Abraham's The Price of Spring, fourth and final book of his Long Price Quartet - very very good. 8)

Brian Ruckely's Bloodheir and Fall of Thanes, to finish up his Godless World Trilogy - again, very good. 8)

Now on to Lye Street, Iron Angel, and God Of Clocks to finish up Alan Campbell's Deepgate Codex. :) It is a trilogy, with an "extra" novella, which is Lye Street. I decided to read the extra novella because it features my favorite character in the series - a badass psychotic murderous angel named Carnival. :)

I agree with you about Ruckley's trilogy, Duchess. Good stuff. :)

I finished up the Deepgate Codex series by Alan Campbell. I liked the first book and the novella a lot more then the second and third books - the series got weirder and weirder as it went, and this third book featured a lot of time travel and parallel universes, which always gives me a headache.

About to start an ARC Amazon sent me called Flesh and Fire by Laura Anne Gilman. It is the first book in a series called The Vineart War. It is about mages who make magical wine. This could be either really unique and cool - or very very bad. No telling which yet.

 Well, the premise leads me to assume the latter, but maybe I'm wrong. ;)

(And Bear's Serpent Mage had magical wine in it...could have been the sequel, The Infinity Concerto (which always makes me think of MM...must be because of Mahler), in fact, now that I think about it, it was the sequel.) (But it wasn't the focus of it or anything, just a prop as it were.)

Currently reading The Farthest Shore by Le Guin. I thought the Tombs of Atuan was great, despite some thinking it was the weakest book. It makes me excited about the rest of the series! Having said that, The Farthest Shore has moved rather slowly so far - but I'm confident it will be rewarding...

The Farthest Shore is amazing-stick with it!

I'm trying to get back into Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, about 50 pages in.

Danlo,

I have recently finished up the urban fantasies Ysabel by Guy Guvriel Kay and The Mystery of Grace by Charles de Lint, as well as the steampunk Mainspring by Jay Lake. Greatly enjoyed all three. And all three can be read as stand alones! :sky:

Ysabel is set in the modern world in the south of France. It is a sequel of sorts to his Fionavar Trilogy, but I think it could probably be read as a stand alone without a problem at all. A Canadian teenager traveling with his father is sucked into an ancient and accursed love triangle which has killed untold thousands over the centuries.

The Mystery of Grace is a very short book, though I think it is long enough to be a novel rather than a novella. :) A lady mechanic meets the love of her life a couple of weeks too late - and to tell anything more would be way too spoilery. It is set in a fictional Southwest US desert city, possibly inspired by Phoenix. 8)

Mainspring was fun. It is set on an alternate Earth in a universe where everything is powered by wound up springs. An angel comes to a young clockmaker's apprentice and tells him that the spring powering the Earth needs its every 2,000 years winding or the world will be destroyed, and that it is up to the kid to get it done. No one believs the kid, and his resulting journey is nearly crazy creative, and very different. :)

And the wine book turned out to be OK. The various winemakers are mages who can put different sorts of spells into their wine - such as healing spells or wind spells. It was different, and I would be willing to read the rest of the series.

On to Tehanu. :D Enjoying it so far - only a couple of chapters in.

I recently bought The Other Wind - no others in my local bookstore! I'll try and fill in the gaps between Tehanu and The Other Wind at some stage - but I'll probably leave Le Guin for a while after Tehanu and return to Midnight Tides, which arrived in the mail last week.
