That's remarkable, ali! My impression of that time was that few people or organizations dared to oppose McCarthy, and those who did were automatically branded enemies of America, or some such crap.

Congrats again, Av! Suits and ties aren't my thing, either. I've worn one, but it's been years. I think I've even forgotten how to do a tie properly.

Meanwhile I'm on holiday all next week, heh heh. (Actually it started yesterday to coincide with Folkfest.)

Have a great vacation, MW!

The hearings were the beginning of the end for Joe McCarthy -- showed him up as the nutcase he was. But yeah, he ruined a lot of people's lives in his heyday.

Most interesting thing I did was go to work.

Ah, it wasn't too bad all things considered. They're pretty chill, the time is relatively flexible, and they don't care how I look, so I might grow my mohawk back. :D Not too far from home either...took me about 40 mins to get home afterwards, so will be able to fit some climbing in after work in summer.

Could be a lot worse.

Sounds like a job other people would kill for, Av. Oh, wait, you're in South Africa - that happens everyday, eh? (Sorry, bad bad joke. Couldn't resist.) :P

Hung out at the mall today, just checking stuff out. Picked up a couple more CDs of artists who had played at Folkfest: Asuncion by world music trio Pacifika, and The Best of Elvis Costello - The First 10 Years.

Also saw a big-ass new bio of Beethoven on the shelf (forgot the author's name - something Lockwood), but it was a hardcover going for $60! No way I'm forking over that much for one book. However, it does sound very interesting, so I'm going to wait for a second-hand copy to come along.

:LOLS: It's not jobs they kill for here, just cars, cell phones and jewellery. ;)

Well, as danlo said, it's nice that we don't obsess over post count here like we do elsewhere.

But we all know Avatar is a machine, aliantha. Don't know what exotic technology powers him, but he keeps going, and going...:P

I worked for hours outside today, clearing out the weeds from a flower bed and planting new flowers. I hope beyond hope that is a sign that my latest increased synthroid dose will work, and I will finally feel better. :) 8)
