The most interesting thing I did today was take a well deserved day off (well I think so anyway  ) also went to tailor shop and organised a fitting for my wedding suit .

I tend to expect the worst when it comes to school, Menolly (speaking from my own experience). Nevertheless, I'm hoping the best for Beorn's marks. Hopefully his teacher(s) will recognize his thinking outside the box.

You deserved your day off, Cleburne. I'm sure the ladies here wouldn't mind seeing a pic of you in your wedding suit. (You won't catch me anywhere near a wedding, though. Heh.)

Regular Monday work day for me...but this past weekend was gorgeous, though hot. Yesterday was the running of the Manitoba Marathon. I was out at the park at 9:00 am and saw some of the marathoners on the course that led out of the park. A local drumming ensemble, Fubuki Daiko, was there performing - I guess to motivate the runners. By 10:00 it already felt pretty warm to me - and I was just strolling in the shade. I learned later on that the marathon organizers had to close off the course early due to the intense heat. 2005 was the last time they had to do that.

I'll say it again: you marathoners are crazy people. :P

My fingers are still crossed for Beorn, Menolly. :)

Cleburne -- congrats on the upcoming nuptials!

MW -- I agree, marathoners are nuts.

I had a great day yesterday, once I levered myself off the couch.... Went to the pool for the first time in forever and swam 18 laps, hurrah! Amazingly, I didn't feel crappy afterward. I have to keep reminding myself that I'm in better shape than I think I am....

Today, back at work. Meh.

Well, after dropping Hyperception off at work, I drove by Beorn's school as we received a phone call that report cards were ready to be picked up. I also needed to get an official transcript so Beorn could apply to be an intern at the library next fall (a paid position, after he finishes earning his 75 "volunteer" hours to qualify to apply for Bright Futures, Florida's college scholarship program.

While I was there, I figured I would ask if there was any idea when the various testing (FCAT, AP, and Cambridge) results would be in. FCAT is the state standardized tests that were taken back in February and March, but we still hadn't received results back. Turns out FCAT results had arrived and were just put out to be distributed.

w00t!!
Beorn ROCKED the FCAT in his weakest area!
6.0 out of 6.0 on the essay!!!
On both the 4th grade and 8th grade essays (they are only given an essay those three years) he barely managed to pass with a 4.0.
Getting the alpha-smart for school work and "use of a computer" for the written portions of testing is obviously working!!

His level stayed about even in Reading and Math, although he score dipped slightly in Math. But he remained in Level 5, which is the highest level for both those subjects.

Now, if only he didn't get a "C" for his term grade in English Literature. At least his previous term grade of a "B+" and his exam grade of a "B" raised his semester grade, the one that goes on his transcript, to a solid "B." So his semester grades were all "A's," except for English Literature. I assume with an unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.846 (on a 4.0 scale) and a weighted cumulative GPA 4.538 (on a 5.0 scale) that he's hanging in there competitively for college applications...

...we hope.

Hope Beorn gets that paid position at the library. It's a nice thrill getting one's first paycheck.

Menolly, you worry over nothing. With his test scores and grades he could probably get in anywhere other than Ivy League and the big Midwestern Ivies such as Northwestern. :D 8)

Well, we've had a very interesting thing happen over the past week and a half. A sweet man named Alex emailed me out of the blue about two weeks ago. Seems he had been lurking on the Watch in Stephen's thread for about 2 months. Long story short, he's moving in with us around the 4th, he's currently living in Salem (OR not MA...hehehe Eric thought it was the one in Mass). He has AIDS and is alone. He reminds me so much of Isaiah, similiar stories, altho Alex's is much more horrific, the abuses he has suffered are unimaginable. We had him come for a visit this past weekend and our whole family just welcomed him as though he has always belonged here. And I got him into see Liz, and she got him going on the right way to take his meds, and put him on some strong antibiotics because he's developing PCP again.

He's registered on the Watch, and is enjoying the Chrons...I got him reading them. He's met Foamfollower..."Joy is in the ears that hear".

Stephen did it again. :D

Anyway...that's my news. Life never slows down...

(And Menolly - Beorn sounds like he is doing great in school, and won't have any problems getting into college. :huggles: :huggles: :huggles:)

Interview. That's the most interesting thing I've done all day. All week in fact. I hate interviews. But I hate being jobless even more so... Neccessary evil. I wish somebody would hire me so I can stop going to interviews.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you, Av! :)

Had lunch with two friends today that I hadn't seen in awhile. One of the women talked through the entire freakin' lunch, all about her stuff. I'm going to have to have lunch with the *other* woman, just to catch up with her.

That's beautiful Furls! Go Stephen! Good luck finding a job Av! I'm all laid up: pulled a tendon near my left achillies two days ago chasing the 3 kids. Finally flared up at 3AM last night. So I'm taking it very easy-put lots of Icy/Hot on it and the nurse (Tam) wrapped it, took a long hot Epsom salts bath now I'm about to go lie down and read my book.

Tough times to be looking for work. Good luck, Av - charm 'em with your personality!

Had a nice holiday yesterday. There were various Canada Day celebrations around the city. Saw the downtown fireworks at 11 pm, or at least parts of it. I was guessing where the fireworks would shoot into the sky, and guessed wrong - most of it was blocked from my view by a building. That's the penalty for being downtown, heh. Next year, I'll head out to the park for the fireworks there.

Hahahaha, sometimes I'm too clever for my own good, which can be a drawback. ;)

Still, it must have worked to some extent, since the suckers...uh...employers...want me back for a second interview on Tuesday. I'm glad, 'cause I've been looking for a job for seven months now, but the idea of having to go back to work after all this time off, (which has effectively been nearly 2 years), is not a thrilling one. If only people didn't want money in exchange for stuff... :D

Take it easy Danlo...tendons are trickier things than muscles to heal...have to rest it for 6 weeks to make a complete recovery. Pop a couple of ibuprofen for the inflammation if it stays tight, but remember that it just masks the symptoms, you're not healed just because the pain goes away.

(I ripped a tendon in my chest climbing a few years back...thought I'd had a heart attack when it happened. Was outta action for nearly two months.)
