Ali, feel better soon! Colds can be completely miserable things. :( And that Ovechkin goal was a beauty - they must have shown it at least three times tonight during the Red Wings telecast on TV. :D 8)

The economy is...getting bad. Well, it was already bad. It is looking rather horrid. Rumors are flying that the federal government will soon be taking over two of the US's largest banks - Citi and Bank of America. The stock market plunged today as a result of those rumors and hit levels not seen for many many years. Each of the last two weeks saw more than 600,00 layoffs, and more than five million people are now on the unemployment rolls. People are screaming about the various bailouts and the plans the government is working on to bring relief to homeowners who are now in trouble or about to be in trouble, or who, due to the plunging housing prices now owe more on their mortgages than their homes are worth. While I can understand the angst and anger that the taxes we all pay are being used for such things, and hate paying taxes as much as the next person, do these people really want to see another Great Depression, or a failure of the entire US financial/banking system???? I do not think that people really understand yet how bad this might still get... :(

You're right, Duchess. They don't get it. Or they're too wrapped up in their neoconservative certainty to see it. <ali shakes her fist at the Tank neocons>

I'm better today, thanks everybody. :) The doc gave me a prescription for some horse-pill-sized antibiotics (Augmentin) on Friday; today's my first day without decongestants in several weeks and I can breathe, yay!

Danlo -- I sure hope Ovechkin's name isn't a typo -- Ted Leonsis signed him to a 13-year, $124 million contract last year!

Aliantha, I hope you are feeling better. :huggles: :huggles: :huggles:

Today, in between napping in the sunshine coming through my bedroom windows and reading Erikson's Reaper's Gale in between nappings, is a baking day. I have rye bread baking now, and have gathered the ingredients for making chocolate chip/peanut butter chip cookies and for butterscotch chip/dark chocolate m&m's cookies as soon as my husband and younger son get home. 8)

Between yesterday and today I generated two new characters for two new potential games on the Watch.
My addiction will soon be sated...
...maybe ;)

Today's most interesting thing...

just came inside from my front yard, where Hyperception, Beorn and I stood and watched the primal fiery orange streak of the space shuttle launch. No binoculars. No telescope. No nothing. Just the trees lining the road blocking most of our view, and the streak of orange bursting through anyway.

...awesome...

Well, you folks in Florida are certainly among the very few people on the planet who have that privilege of seeing the space shuttle launch. I doubt I'll ever get the chance to witness a shuttle launch in person. I mean, NASA is retiring the fleet in the next little while, right? I imagine their next gen space plane, or whatever it will be, won't provide the same spectacle when it goes into space. Though probably better for the environment.

It was a gorgeous, sunny Sunday. I'm sure we hit temperatures above zero. I just generally enjoyed myself outside, though with all the melting snow, I had to dodge around large ponds on the streets.

So yesterday I went to the hospital for my latest blood draw to measure the various thyroid hormones in preparation for my next visit to the specialist on upcoming Tuesday.

This afternoon they called, telling me that I need to start taking the synthroid now and wanting the name and phone number of my pharmacy, so they could fax the presciption. :o

So I picked up the presciption, and will start taking the synthroid in the morning. It has to be taken first thing, with nothing but a bit of water to be eaten or drank for an hour after taking the pill each day.

I hope this means I will be feeling better eventually - and sooner rather than later, as I have only managed to get through one full shift and two partial shifts at work for more than a week now. And when I have had to drive, I have woven around like a drunk on the road due to exhaustion.

Oh well. I have saved my sick time up for years in case I ever had need of it, and that time is now. :? Even after all of this, I still have 3-4 months worth.
