The Phillies clinched their series beating Milwaukee 6-2 as Joe Blanton struck out 7 over 6 innings. Left fielder Pat Burrell drove in 4 runs with 2 homers. The National League championship series begins Thursday at Philadelphia. The Dodgers' Derek Lowe takes on Cole Hamels.

Angels won on a Mike Napoli score in the 12th inning, Napoli hit two home runs early in the game. With the Red Sox leading the series 2-1 the action swings to Beantown today with LA's John Lackey (I know I screwed up his name last time-I had a neighbor named Jeff Lackey for 4 years) against John Lester.

Much to duchy,Tom and dAN's disgust the White Sox remained alive as well, John Danks got the win topping Tampa Bay 5-3. Tampa Bay still leads 2-1 and will host Chicago today as Gavin Floyd faces Andy Sonnanstine (13-9).

Right-Angels suck in postseason play-I just can't figure out why, But John Lester does pitch like a horse (as Jim Rome was saying earlier today on his radio show) blanking LA for 7 innings. The game was tied at 2 in the ninth when Jed Lowrie hit a two out single and Jason Bay (remember, the guy the Dodgers traded for Manny) slid headfirst into home plate to seal the deal. The AL Championship series starts Friday at Tampa Bay. No pitching starts have been decided yet.

Form the worst record in baseball to a shot at playing in the World Series the Rays made it happen by beating the White Sox 6-2. Andy Sonnestine got the win and B.J. Upton homered twice.

We managed to confidently pass through the first of three hurdles toward the goal but we now we have to contend with the the second Sox team in a row. This one we know all too well. It's going to be a tough ALCS. I'm trying to keep from looking past this series toward...well you know.

Sorry I'm slacking, Philadelphia's already up 2-0 on the Dodgers-they won Thusrsday 3-2 behind Cole Hamels. Yesterday Brett Myers lasted 5 innings striking out 6 but giving up 5 runs, he also drove in 3 runs going 3 for 3 and scored twice. Shane Victorino played like a superstar hitting a triple and driving in 4 runs, he also made a stellar play in the outfield. Phillies won 8-5. The series shifts to Los Angeles Sunday with Jamie Moyer facing Hiroki Kuroda.

Last night Daisuke Matsuzaka shut the Rays out over 7 inning as Jonathan Papelbon got the save. Kevin Yukailis hit 2 doubles driving in a run as the Sox won 2-0. In Tampa today Josh Beckett goes against Scott Kazmir in game two.

Hasn't Beckett been fighting injuries of late? (Though it is quite possible I have him mistaken for another Boston pitcher). Wonder if his arm can handle the playoffs?

In a 5 and 1/2 hour game that lasted till the 11th inning Tampa Bay edged Boston 9-8 to even the AL series at one game each. Fernando Perez crossed the plate on B. J. Upton's sacrifice fly. Both teams combined to tie a playoff record for most combined home runs at 7. Series moves to Boston Monday when Matt Garza matches up with John (the horse) Lester.

On Sunday the Dodgers won 7-2 and now the NL series stands at 2-1 in favor of the Phillies. Hiroki Kuroda lasted 6 innings for the win and Blake DeWitt drove in 3 runs with a triple. Joe Blanton pitches for Philadelphia v. Derek Lowe coming off three days rest tonight.
