It's all good.

We are living in a golden age of fantasy right now.

With the exception of
Midnight Tides (which I despise)

, Erikson's series is right on. Could be one of the greatest ever with some editing.

R. Scott Bakker rocks (to me anyway).

Donaldson is producing what might be his greatest work, and to me he is right up there with Tolkien as someone writing wonderful and intelligent work.

You have writers like Kay and McKillip who are capable of producing lyrical beauty when they are on top of their game.

George R. R. Martin might be in the middle of what might be one of the greatest works that will ever be produced in the genre.

Lois McMaster Bujold has switched over from writing great character driven science fiction to writing great romantic character driven fantasy.

Diana Gabaldan has two more Outlander novels on the way, speaking of good character driven romantic fantasy.
And a lot of the new urban fantasy writers such as Jim Butcher and Patricia Briggs might be lacking depth, but they are hard to beat for sheer fast paced fun.

Great popcorn escape reading.
I keep hearing great things about some newcomers I have not tried yet like Scott Lynch, Joe Abercrombie, Daniel Abraham, and Patrick Rothfus.
Yes, we are living in a golden age, and I for one am ecstatic about it.
