Sounds great Danlo! I will definately have to rent this one! Maybe the original mini-series, too, since I never saw it! Our lives are the songs that sing the universe into existence.~David Zindell

Juat watched the new Led Zeppelin concert DVD set, called How the West Was Won. There is a remarkable musical sequence on the second disc of them in an acoustical concert someplace called Earl's Court, which includes stunning acoustal versions of among other songs, Going to California and Stairway to Heaven. These dvd's would bore non Led Zep fans to death, but anyone who likes their music should check them out. Our lives are the songs that sing the universe into existence.~David Zindell

Loved Gangs of New York! Yes it was pretty violent but the Civil War Draft Riots in NYC were even more violent than what the movie depicted. I love Daniel Day-Lewis! DeCaprio continues 2 impress--The Beach, Catch Me if You Can and now Gangs r def. sign that he's going 2 be a great actor, finally...

Phonebooth blew my socks off! Colin Farell saved Daredevil as Bullseye and gave a great prefomance here--parts were a little unbelievable--but still turned me in2 a nervous wreck!

Ratings: Gangs-8 and 3/4 to 9
Phonebooth: 8 and 1/4 And now Danlo looked in that direction, too. He remembered that snowy owls mate in the darkest part of deep winter, and so along with this beautiful white bird perched in a tree a hundred feet away, he turned to face the sea as he watched and waited.

Ahira, Ahira, he called out silently to the sky. Ahira, Ahira

Tam and I went to the theater for Open Range today. Aside from an elongated "girly" ending it totally kicked butt! There was some great realism here that brought up memories of The Unforgiven. Duvall's acting was superb, Kostner didn't try to overact. The Canadian landscapes were outstanding and the soundtrack was effective yet not overbearing. The beauty of the cinematography was reminicient of The Horse Whisperer and the sheer intensity of the gunfights, again, was akin to The Unforgiven: not the "pop pop" we're used to in most run of the mill westerns--but it was as if you were in the front row of a prizefight where all the shots fired felt like fists landing blows instead of bullets issueing from weapons. Very memorable lines. Many critics have said that this is the best western since The Unforgiven--but they forgot to watch The Hi-Lo Country in the meantime... And now Danlo looked in that direction, too. He remembered that snowy owls mate in the darkest part of deep winter, and so along with this beautiful white bird perched in a tree a hundred feet away, he turned to face the sea as he watched and waited.

Both of my children LOVE the book Holes so tonight we watched the movie. We all found it to be very enjoyable. The kids say the book is better, but still were both glued to the dvd. Our lives are the songs that sing the universe into existence.~David Zindell

Just saw Nick Nolte in The Good Thief. Oustanding performance, Nolte still rules! (see: Affilction for another killer Nolte acting job) Engaging, believable: sorta Graham Green meets William Gibson in a strange way, talk about two completely different styles... In other words, kinda like "Our Man in Havana" meets "Barfly" meets hi-tech. Very engaging hiest job, Ralph Fiennes in a stunning two second Cameo and check out Vlad's Hendrix renditions. Heartbreaking and fun at the same time. (almost as many juxtapositions in that review as a Picasso painting! )-solid 9!

My older son and I watched Finding Nemo this weekend and that movie was a real hoot! The animation was stunning, many of the characters, such as the sharks in the 12 step program for fish eaters, and the surfer-dude turtle were hilarious. And the funniest of all were the sea gulls! We would both recommend this movie to people of all ages...it's just fun. ******************************************************

Just saw Master and Commander and I must say it was good, damm good!
Amazing effects and sound-I thought that one particular cannonball ripped my head clean off! Close to Dances with Wolves for cinematography and emotion, but easily short of Braveheart. It was a rousing good adventure and Crowe was very close to the best he can be, except for A Beautiful Mind.

Many critics hyped it up a little too much and it didn't live up to that-but def ur moneys worth-worth having in ur home-great value lessons for young boys (and girls)-as realistic as Unforgiven and Armistad. Crowe deserves a nod 4 Academy Award-but won't get it-comes very close to reaching upper ecshalon of great films but doesn't quite make it...

Maybe it was due to the fact that you're supposed to sympathize with the young and very young officers and midshipmen..but for some reason I couldn't-if u can this might be a much better movie 4 u...

(if you're interested in another great film along these lines I recommend White Squall with Kurt Russell-which is sort of like Breakdown on the ocean)

We watched a film from France this morning called Winged Migrations. My little son watched it rather then Saturday morning cartoons, so you know it had to be pretty good!

It is a lovely nature documentary, mostly of birds in flight, set to beautiful soft music. The back of the box said it took five film crews (more than 450 people) travelling through more than 40 countries and all seven continents to make this movie.
The result is stunning...hauntingly beautiful... ******************************************************

Finally got a chance to catch up with this one last night on dvd. It was certainly not the deepest movie you will ever see, but it is a very fun one!
Johnny Depp was perfectly cast in his role as a pirate captain...the special effects were pretty well done...Orlando Bloom was fun, as always...and the leading lady was buxom and pretty...
And they had bits and pieces of the Disney ride mixed in as scenes from the movie, which made it a lot of fun to keep an eye out for them.
I really enjoyed myself, it was a nice little diversion. ******************************************************

Another movie I have been wanting to see for awhile...and I am so glad I did!
What an uplifting and beautiful movie!
Parts will break your heart...loving parents losing their child and the unravelling of their marriage...showing how the grief of that never leaves no matter how many years pass...other loving parents giving their child away at the height of the depression to give him a chance in life...a small, gallant horse abused and turned rogue...a good and loving man reduced to living in the bushes...
But it shows how much GOOD people can do for each other, it shows how much beauty and how much love there can be in the world...it shows that everyone and everything has worth...no matter how beaten up that life appears to be...
I cannot recommend this movie enough...
Other than ROTK this is the finest and most meaningful movie I have seen in a long, long time... ******************************************************
