A roots group called Blind Boys of Alabama. They have this really really cool song where the sing the words of Amazing Grace to the tune of House of the Rising Sun. I know the description sounds odd, but it is just the coolest thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wasted Years-Iron Maiden. What does a "roots band" mean? Localized Reggae influence? *****

Well, a roots band is one that plays American roots music. Roots music is the really old stuff that later develped into other genres like the blues, country, bluegrass, rock, zydeco, etc. It's where a lot of American music got started.

Tonight its been the Offspring's Greatest Hits, The Essential Earth, Wind, & Fire, Carole King The Living Room Tour, Dave Matthews Band Stand Up, and the Foo Fighters' latest release.

I should listen to Pink Floyd to get into the mood for Friday night's show. We'll be going to something called the Pink Floyd Laser Light Spectactular down in Toledo. It's outdoors, so hopefully the weather will be OK.

Tonight I've been listening to Miles Davis Bitches Brew and Sketches of Spain. Now on Los Lonely Boys

Los Lonely Boys -- Velvet Sky
Quote:
Are you lookin' at the moon tonight
You even brave enough to try
To find your strength inside
Change your mind, decide
Cause I fell from the sky
I tried to catch your eye
In a velvet sky

Did you wish upon a fallin' star

Do you know where you are in your life
Are you walkin' in between the lines
I can tell by the look in your eyes
You're hurtin' way down inside
Afraid to leave your pain behind
Never know what you're gonna find
When you look up at the velvet sky
You will finally come alive

I have been going through a bit of a Pink Floyd thing lately, so on my current car playlist are the Pink Floyd Cd's Dark Side of the Moon, Animals, and Wish You Were Here.

Quote:
PINK FLOYD LYRICS

"Wish You Were Here"

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Also in my current stack:
King Crimson The Power to Believe
King Crimson Happy With What You Have to be Happy With
The Cure Mixed Up
John Coltrane Coltrane for Lovers
John Coltrane The Gentle Side of John ******************************************************

Herbie Hancock's Possibilities. He must have taken a hint from Carlos Santana, as this new CD features a different guest artist on each song. I especially like the contributions from Santana and from Christina Aguilera (I know --she's flaky, but she can also sing if she sets her mind to it ).

One of my friends is in a choir for gay men. He lent me a CD of their performance in a huge festival for gay choirs (both male and female) that was held in Montreal in July, 2004. I am enjoying them singing Motown classics like Pink Cadillac. Makes sense they would be singing Motwon, since the choir is based in the Detroit area. ******************************************************
