Ok I'm double posting--but I'm too excited--we've just finished slapping together the Gene Wolfe forum and I'm extremely happy about it. Duchy is hosting the banner, the Hangar itself and I have provided killer visuals and Syl has the creative impulse going big time.

Syl has gone from hosting his own Wolfe board to maintaining a small but very loyal following at his sub-forum at Kevin's Watch, unfortunately that forum has, recently been reduced to a thread. I'm about to blare this forum under the Hangar's internet profile. I will keep this forum going as long as the Hangar exists. If there isn't a way to appreciate Gene Wolfe's work on the net then we are all sadly bereft.

Like David Zindell in the "Neverness" books Wolfe has a way of creating not only a brand new world(s) but creating a new language to describe all his little intracacies...especially in his Urth books. His descriptions and symbology are not only subtle, but mindblowing, in the end. We have some incredible Sci-Fi and fantasy authors in Quicktime and Wolfe is the ultimate compliment to this very thought-provoking category. Anyone brilliant enough to delve deep into Zindell, Brin, Martin, Donaldson, Simmons, etc...will feel throughly rounded once they discover Wolfe. *****

I'm glad to see the Wolfe forum. He is an author I hope to have time to explore more in the future, even though the complexity of his books is a bit too much for my puny mind to handle at times.

Taras, the weather, after being cold and rainy for a long time, suddenly changed over to being clear and sunny on Saturday. It is still chilly at night, and we have had to have our heat on a couple of nights, but it has been absolutely gorgeous out. You couldn;t ask for more lovely spring weather. ******************************************************

Congratulations to Master Pilot Nerdanel!!!

Just got back from a wonderful and peaceful weekend in Kentucky. I'm glad to see that the place did not get hacked for Memorial Day this year.

Right now the kitties are demanding huge amounts of attention, they hate it when we go away.

Something to Fall Back On

If I gave you just a bit more time
Do you think that you would make up your mind?
You can’t expect that a flower will grow
Until you get around to giving it more
Like it’s only

Something to fall back on
Something to fall back on
Something to fall back on

Like a crumpled dollar hidden in your hat
For the subway home when there’s no welcome mat
You’d be left with nothing if it weren’t for that
When you need to find it it’s right behind you

Remember when you were the talk of the town
And you didn’t care if I was around
But still you kept me in the back of your head
Just like the teddy bear that you took to bed
I was only something to fall back on

And to wake up lonely is your deepest dread
So you stay connected by a tiny thread
Though you’d rather try for something else instead
When you need to find me I’m right behind you

I know I’m only
Something to fall back on

I don’t know what makes me think I’ve the right
To tell you what is most important in life
But after all I guess I just don’t care
And if you need me I will always be there
’cause when I just imagine how it will be
Then I guess it’s something to fall back on
Something to fall back on for me

I need to know you’ll need me sometime
Everybody needs somebody to fall back on
Fall back on me
Nobody’s going nowhere
You can call me anytime
You can fall back on me
You can call on me
I’m waiting on you babe
When your world is falling down
And there’s no one else around
And you’re sitting, waiting by the phone
You can call me and I won’t leave you alone

"Women and song, and women!" The Ineffable Flame!

On day three of an incredibly busy weekend. We were driving from one graduation party to another when a huge thunderstorm started, so we decided to stop at home (which was on the route) until the hail and heavy rain stop. Thought I would pop online and say hello to everyone while riding the storm out.

Thursday was senior class honors night. My son has been awarded some local scholarships on top of the ones Ball State and the state of Michigan have gave him, so now his tuition is pretty much taken care of. Maybe we can swing this college thing after all!

Last night Calibaby and I went out for a wonderful concert and dinner to celebrate getting one of the baby birds nearly out of the nest.

Today was intensive house cleaning, flower planting, and mosquito spraying all morning - lots of parties in the afternoon.

My eldest sister will be arriving from Tennessee sometime this evening, and we shall have to make sure she gets dinner and rest as soon as she gets in.

Tomorrow one of my other sisters gets into town, and we will all go out to breakfast. Then will be Bigred's graduation, then we will all go out to dinner.

This is all crazy. I am so glad my son did not want a party - there is so much going on without one!

Well, a crazy but wonderful weekend is over.

This work I will work the next four nights, try to get all of the laundry done, and pack for our vacation. We will be going to Chicago and Wisconsin for a week - it is our gradaution gift for one of the finest children anyone could ever ask for. We have tickets to the King Tut exhibit, a White Sox game, and a Cubbies game, and I am about to check on tickets to the Blue Man group. In Wisconsin we will be visiting the Frank LLoyd Wright estate and going to the Dells, where we will stay at one of those huge water park hotels.

Should be a great time, and we will be leaving on Saturday, so after we go, you won't be seeing me for a bit over a week. I'll be dropping in for the next few days as time permits, however. ******************************************************

Have a great vacation Duchy. There's a vague possibilty that I may be going back east this summer...my mom's health is not as good as we thought after the 30+ plus chemo treatments. I'd like to arrange it that I can show up at DC Elohimfest--but that's kind of tuff as Tam has commited herself to taking Alora (our new 1 year old foster girlie, of whom we have a VERY high probability to adopt) to South Dakota for a week in July. She's visiting her mom who just recovered from a fairly serious heart attack in late March. So it's better for me to go back east then too-that way it won't be too hard on one of us to take care of the boys singlehandedly-and won't interfere with my classes.

Now I know what you're saying: Danlo and Tam still have the boys? Yes it's very complicated: in the intial court battle the Judge retired and the guardian ad-lightum turned the case over to someone else and we thought we'd have to give them up in April or May. Turns out that the new guardian is a former assistant DA with some considerable pull and is trying to bring an expert in to testify-and is trying to bring criminal charges against the birthparents. It may not hold up, but at least we have shared custody thoughout the summer. *****

Thank God - and I sure hope it holds up. It was making me sick to think of the boys being turned back to people who hurt them - I cannot even imagine what that was doing to you and to your Lady.

I am sorry to hear that both of your moms are not doing too well. And I hope you do get to go see her soon! ******************************************************

Actually now it looks like I'll be flying in the 22nd of June and driving down to DC for the East Coastfest! *****

That would be fantastic! I was talking to dlb a week or so ago, and he was saying how much he wished you or Fisty, or someone he had already met would be there. I bet you are going to have a fine, fine, fine time. ******************************************************

I'm not sure if this will work or not, but it is one of the pictures one of my sisters took at my son's graduation and emailed to me.

edited: well, that image turned out to be frighteningly large and completely warped the page!

I will link it instead so anyone who wished to can go see it that way
