I'm glad your foot is healing, MsMary.

The bad hives I had are more or less healed up, but I've been fighting off a cold for about a week now. On Saturday night I have a tub reserved at the hot tub gardens, maybe that will help!

Still no word on possible disaster relief deployment. I'm beginning to relax a bit; looks like they might not send me anywhere after all. ******************************************************

Heh. My son's high school soccer team is state ranked.

mihisoccer.org/boysrankings.htm

That definately calls for a toast. Back when he was a freshman they didn;t win a single game all season! ******************************************************

Well, just when I was thinking that I could start to relax about being deployed...got into work today to find out that they've started sending people out again...

One of our nurses got called at home at 10AM to be told he had to catch a 5PM flight out of Detroit to New Orleans this afternoon.

Ah well. If I go I go. In the meantime, I will enjoy what time I have with my family. <i></i>

Wow congrats duchess & bigredbulldog!!! -----------------

But since in fact we see that avarice, anger, envy, pride, sloth, lust, and stupidity commonly profit far beyond humility, chastity, fortitude, justice and thought, and have to choose, to be human at all...why then perhaps we must stand fast a little - even at the risk of being heroes." - Sir Thomas More, "A Man For All Seasons," by Robert Bolt<i></i>

Well, some people might get a long weekend, but I am not one of them. Though I will get extra pay for working on Monday since its one of those little fake government holidays.

I am at work now, and trying to catch my breath from being so busy this weekend. On Friday we went to watch my older son play soccer. It was freezing cold! I had to wear gloves! Right after, we walked over to the football stadium and watched the high school homecoming game. At least the huge crowd meant that it was a bit warmer.

On Saturday we had to drive out to Tecumseh to watch my younger son play in a travel soccer game. After wards, we dropped the kids off at home and Calibaby and I went out to get Thai food. Neither of us had ever had Thai food before. It was interesting, with elements of Indian food (curry, potatos, cucumbers) and Chinese food (snow peas, some of the other spices and vegetables) but has a unique flavor all of its own. Even the tea had a unique (and good) flavor to it. Then we went to a jazz concert with the Pat Metheney Quartet, which was excellent.

Next weekend will also be busy. We will he heading down to Indiana for part of the weekend so Bigred can vivit the campus of Ball State University and we can go to a football game there.

Turiya, Madison is most excellent and beautiful city. It has three very pretty lakes that is built around. One of my friends went to grad school there, and I always enjoyed visiting him and his wife. <i></i>

Well, we had fun down in Indiana...but we have questions about soem differences between MAC school tailgating and game attire and what we've seen at our local Big10 school. We have a call in to Damelon...hopefully he can explain the people running around dressed as Super Sperm. ******************************************************

It's been a while since I checked in. Between going out of town and the Jewish holidays, it's been hard to keep up with all my emails and forums.

My trip to Orlando for a conference went well. I was able to drive easily, even with the surgical shoe on my foot, with the help of cruise control. I had never used cruise control before, but it was a big help in this case. The conference ended on a Saturday night, but I stayed over to see friends in Orlando. We had a delicious lunch at Emeril's at Universal, and then saw Serenity. After that I hopped in the car and headed home.

Rosh Hashana was the week following my conference. The day after Rosh Hashana, I had my last visit with the podiatrist. He told me my toe was "75% healed" and gave me instructions to walk normally (a relative term, I quickly found), wearing sneakers with a roomy toebox, but not to jump, run, hop, or dance for two weeks. Ha! As if I could! Even two weeks later, my foot is swollen, although better, and I am just starting to walk normally. I have only one pair of sneakers I can get my foot into with any kind of comfort.

Following that last podiatrist's visit, I flew up to New England to spend some time with Foamy. We spent two nights with an old family friend in NJ, then went in to NY to see "Avenue Q" with my nephew. It was a lot of fun.

Then home again for Yom Kippur and the rest of the fall Jewish holidays (still ongoing). We are now in the middle days of Sukkot (translated as "Tabernacles" in the Christian Bible), during which we build small temporary huts in which we eat our meals.

We are somwhat nervously following the progression of Hurricane Wilma and wondering if it will hit us or not.

As far as my foot, I have started walking a little bit each day, just 10-15 minutes, so far, around the house, and following that with the regular strengthening exercises I used to do. I feel that I need to get used to walking again and build up my stamina before I can return to work.

That's it for now. Hope everyone is doing well. "Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?"<i></i>

Time to check in, it's been a busy couple of weeks.

How about those White Sox! anana

Outstanding pitching (amazing how they shut down Vlad) gets them in. Given that its been 46 years since a Chicago team has been in the World Series, my friend and I decided to break the piggy bank and go to Game 1. After all if it will be another 46 years before a Chicago team gets in I'll be 89.

Duchess, I got your messages, but the sound was rather broken up. I don't know about what they do at Ball State, it is in Indiana, and the alma mater of Dave Letterman, so anything goes there I guess. NIU is relatively tame by comparison, at least now. When I was there though, there were some rather spirited battles with ears of corn being the projectile of choice, but that was long ago.

Damelon, I am beginning to wonder if I need to trade in my cell phone. I know that in the last few months I cannot hear anything anyone says to me (unless they are shouting) if there is any sort of background noise at all, such as traffic noise if I am outside, or a radio if I am in car. I was just thinking it's because I am getting old now (up to 41 as this week, and feeling every day of it), and my hearing is seriously going. But now I am wondering if its the phone rather than me, since Fist and Calibaby are always complaining that they can't hear me, and that even my messages are very hard to hear.

I am very happy that you get to see your beloved Sox playing in the World Series. I hope they win it all for you!

Wouldn't getting hit by an ear of corn hurt? I think I would rather deal with guys running around in Super Sperm costumes. If my son does end up going to Ball State, you would have to go to Muncie sometime for a weekend if your school goes there to play football. The tailgating at BSU was a lot of fun. Johnsonville brats and microbrew beer would be on me.

MsMary, I am so glad to hear that your foot is getting better. Enjoy your holidays! And I hope very much that this latest hurricane will spare Florida. Between the horrors of Katrina and Rita here in the US, and from Stan in Central America -- enough lives have been lost and people made homeless from these monster storms. Let's hope Wilma spins itself harmlessly out to sea, and spares people in all threatened nations!

One of the people in my department at work was deployed this week. Latest rumor says that when she gets back, they will be sending everyone who volunteered, one after another, in two or three week increments. We'll see. I signed up for this, and obviously do not mind helping out. But the not knowing if or when I will go is a bit nerve wracking.

All right, time to go outside now and plant a few hundred more flower bulbs! It's chilly today and I have delayed this long enough! ******************************************************

Here is hoping all of our Floridians are safe! Hurricane Wilma hit the Gulf side as a Cat 3 storm; hit the Atlantic side as a strong cat 2 storm; no one was expecting the Atlantic side to get hit so hard, and there was a lot of damage there. Hope MsMary and her family and home are all safe. I believe Tom and dAN are up near Tampa? Sounds like they might have been spared the worst of it (I hope anyway?) ******************************************************
