I hope today finds you feeling a lot better, MsM!

We are going to have our first real snow of the season tommorrow! We are going to get one of the storms they call an Alberta Clipper... (yes, Danlo -- there are names for the different sorts of snow storms we get ) The snow will look lovely on the pine trees, though. ******************************************************

Well, while I was at work tonight my older son had his season opener for wrestling. He won one and he lost a close match to a senior who made it to the state high school championships last year (Bigredbulldog is a sophomore who turned 15 in the middle of last month). So he is certainly off to a promising start to the season.
I even more pleased with him for another reason, though. He got the varsity starting spot this week, beating out a senior on the team to get it. The senior challenged one weight class up, and lost that match. My son then told the coach he would give the starting spot to the senior bacause he thought it was the right thing to do for both the other kid and for the team. The coach refused...so he wrestled tonight and did himself proud...
You know what? Everytime I think it is not possible to be any prouder of my older son as a human being he somehow comes up with a reason to prove me wrong. ******************************************************

Somehow, Duchess, I figure he must be a reflection of those he loves & respects.

I know with my 4 (5 on the 22nd) yr old, It's a struggle to instill those types of thoughts & responses to a child as he/she grows up in this world of 'dog eat dog'.

It's hard to make him understand that sometimes you can still be a winner by giving something up or giving someone else a second chance who may have stumbled or made a mistake.

Cheers to Duchess & Cali for a fine job of raising up thier children in our world - honesty & compasion are tough things to teach & practice.

3 little changes: I've switched the url on the Martin banner 2 the author's personal website, George R. R. Martin.com: it's a very facinating and fun site-and also has the "Dany" story from the upcoming A Feast of Crows. You can still get get 2 the A Song of Fire and Ice discussion board by clicking the ezboard ring funtion at the bottom of the index. There r also new little graphics at the bottom Gen. Sci-Fi and Science and Technology. *****

Oh, what a day I had yesterday! I spent the day at my older son's season opening wrestling tournament. He won first place at his weight. There was an extra slot, so the senior kid also got to wrestle, and he came in third place. The fact that they both got medals pleased me to no end. The team as a whole came in second place out of twelve.
As soon as I got home I got to go into work and work an overtime shift. The workload has been so heavy lately, normal staffing cannot cover it so they have been calling us all in to work overtime...five more work days and then I can have a glorious week off...I will do a lot of shopping for and maybe get to see a movie, and go to some of my older son's wrestling meets, and see my little son's band and choir concerts...and my friend's choir concert down in Toledo, and even get a weekend with this guy , which will be wonderful. Just five more work days! I THINK that I can make it... ******************************************************

Sounds like you had a busy day, duchess.

I called in sick for the 4th day in a row yesterday. I have a scheduled day off today, and will go back to work tomorrow. Not feeling 100% back to normal yet, but I hope I can make it through 4 days of work till my weekend off.

Today, my hubby and I are going out to lunch with old friends of ours from Boston.

Since you were able to go in, I hope that means you are feeling better.
Two more work nights and then I am free for an entire glorious week! Looks like its shaping up to be a busy one, though:
Friday: clean house frantically , go grocery shopping , visit with Damelon when he gets in on the train
Saturday: not sure what we're doing yet, but will be going to a Broadway play that evening
Sunday: see Damelon off in the morning , in the afternoon go to a friend's choir concert in Toledo, Ohio, followed by a formal dinner at his house
Monday: younger son's choir concert
Tuesday: older son's wrestling meet
Wednesday: younger son's band concert
Thursday: older son's wrestling meet
Friday: will attempt to see ROTK with younger son
Saturday: older son's wrestling tournament (it's one of those huge, 12 or more hour ones, too )
Sunday: back to work...

I will do the Christmas shopping and send out the cards next week, too...and hopefully spend more time here and Shadows and the Watch...I want to catch up with the Wounded Land group read...

Sounds like a busy week, Duchess. Further up, and further in!

I'm from Boston. I dont pronounce my R's. I call a garbage can a barrel, a liquor store a packie, a water fountain a bubbla, a milkshake a frappe. I root for a team who has not won a World Series since 1918. To me Cape Cod is a little piece of Heaven down here on Earth. The best place to be on a summer night is Fenway. I ride on the T. I know better than to swim in the Charles River. I yell YANKEES SUCK! when the Red Sox are playing the Tigers. I am a Bostonian and I'm wicked proud of it.
