Bah, why didn't I think of that?

Maybe I'll get a copy for the Reader, and save the dead-tree doorstop for Erikson to sign someday. Hauling those things on the bus is a pain.

Nearly done - in the 900's and trying to finish it before my weekend off ends. :)

Erikson's best since Memories of Ice, IMHO anyway. And since I really enjoyed HOC (an I the only person in the world who enjoyed HOC a whole lot??) that is actually pretty high praise. :mrblue:

I am amazed at how much he has managed to bring in from pretty much every other book in the series.

The topic warns of spoilers, so I'm not gonna put this in tags.

There'll be plenty of discussing various things and characters, but no time right now. The big thing is this:

WHY DID THEY KILL HIM??????????????????? Wasn't he gonna leave? He was trying to figure out how to get back to his home. There couldn't possibly be a reason they couldn't have found a way. WTF???????????

I think that in killing him they actually freed his spirit so he could go home. Otherwise he would have still been bound - but in mortal flesh rather than in chains. And - his followers would have destroyed the earth, as they already did the moon. :?

But it's Erikson, so who knows?

(duchess and I went through all this via txt today. But we'll do it again for our readers.)

Yup. It would surely make more sense that way. But I wish they'd say that. Koryk and I were stunned and heartbroken! Couldn't Fiddler have made it a little more clear for us idiots?? Why did Cotillion do it that way? Kaminsod should have known what was going on. He should have been in on the plan. He would have approved, don't you think? Known it was necessary? Why the surprise-assassination-from-behind?

One of my favorite parts - of TCG and the whole series - is that the Snake turned out to be a manifestation of D'rek! That's incredible!

The Otataral Dragon is an amazing and tragic character. I can't believe they couldn't come up with a better answer than chaining her up again. :( :( :(

The dead god/huge D'ivers in the Glass Desert is also amazing. So ancient; so unknowing of what it is and was. Mappo was so cool, running through, realizing what it was.

And, of course, Mappo's death was one of the worst in the series. DAMN!! But I'm sure he was ready to rest anyway. He just didn't want it then, when Icarium needed him!

The Forkrul Assail are a bunch of pricks. It was SOOO nice seeing them defeated in so many ways. Brys was great! And the Wolves. And Paran. And the Quick/Kalam combo!

One of these days I will actually have time to go through your posts and reply line by line. Until then...

Keep in mind that some of the people you thought might pop up still might pop up, in either Esslemont's books, or in the other six planned Erikson books (the Tiste prequel trilogy or the Karsa post-CG trilogy. :)

Yeah. Still, I'd've thought the most powerful and important events since the chainings of Kaminsod and Korabas would have caught the attention of a few of these folks.

And I'm hoping, eventually, others will finish the book, and comment here and there. heh
