Wow, until I got to work tonight I did not know how exhausting just going out of town for the weekend would be.

Did not do anything very strenuous, either.

Guess I am not as recovered from all the medical problems as I had hoped.

(Still glad that I went, though. )

I should've taken yesterday off. I had no idea how depressing real life would be after WFC. No, seriously, I was pretty much useless -- switching gears from "author" to "just another secretary" was unexpectedly tough. (Yeah, I know -- whine and moan, whine and moan. )

Anyway, it was good to see dlb and Romeo, and meet Duchess and Orlion for the first time. And the chat with SRD was the best. Too bad Romeo had to bail early (his mom had a stroke Friday night so he hightailed it home early Saturday).

OK the intro to The Farthest Shore is now, officially, up. Not the greatest, but at least it opens up the Read! (If I drank, I'd have a drink...)

Brrr! It's cold...time to put on some loud music and do the dishes (with lots of hot water)!

It's chilly here today, too. Finally cleared out my to-do pile at work yesterday -- yaaaaay! Gotta clean up the kitchen tonight, and then I think I'm caught up on chores 'til the weekend.

I'm massively bummed about US politics and the state of the world right now...we're still in f-ing Afghanistan and the 'aristocracy' is poised to take over and screw us royal, once again. Americans are selfish, narrow minded and have the attention spans of fleas. I once thought the internet was going to make us smarter and establish a better sense of community. Even though it has in some cases, it's generally become a sewer for idiots with agendas. One vote doesn't make change automatically happen, it's not like clicking an option on the web--it takes work, dedication and vision-I said that 4 years ago and I'll still say it. If I have any mission at all as an admin at kevinswatch it will be to crusade against 'Think Tank' type crap spilling into other forums...it's disgusting and has never been what we've ever been about.

Any way, no word from SRD re: Elohimfest yet, I guess I have to PM Romeo and see what's up. I think I've finally broken down and will continue Malazan by buying The Deadhouse Gates today. Other than that I'm very happy-Tam and Grace are doing awesome-and I may even hit the gym today-highly upset I missed John McGlaughlin & the 4th Dimension at the Lensic Theater in Santa Fe on Tuesday-not only is that one of THE most beautiful historic venues in the country but, according to the many glowing reports I've heard Etienne Mbappe is the most amazing jazz bassist now playing (and he plays with gloves!). Have a great weekend all!

Grrr...if I didn't have a kid I'd boycott Christmas...

Our first snow storm of the year is rolling in tonight! The ground is actually already covered with snow, from a bunch of snow flurries and snow showers, but the first Alberta Clipper of the season is on the way! Those usually give us just 1-3 inches, so no big deal.

The Great Lakes were as warm as bath tubs this summer (or at least Lake Michigan was, when we went camping on the beach in July). So lots and lots of lake effect snow this winter! Upstate New York has four feet of snow on the ground in some areas! Western Michigan and northern Indiana supposedly have a foot or two as well, depending on the place. We're sort of sheltered here, usually only getting lake effect snow from Lake Erie if the wind is coming from the east. But even we have gotten some intense bands of flurries from the Lake Michigan snow machine!

About to go get my annual mammogram. How come leaving my house without putting on deodorant feels like I am walking out of my house naked? (something you do not want to do this morning, as it is fifteen degrees out there!)

Hope the boob-squishing went off without a hitch, Duchess. I hate those things....

Ahhh, lake effect snow -- now there's something I haven't had to worry about since I left Northern Indiana!

I'm getting on with holiday prep. The tree is up and nearly all the shopping is done -- just have to get a couple more things after I get paid tomorrow. I thought I would be able to put off all the holiday baking until next weekend, and just take it easy this weekend; alas, the Secretarial Dept. cookie exchange is Monday. I was also most hopeful that I wouldn't have to go out of town for Yule, but it's looking increasingly likely that I'll be driving down to Roanoke instead of the girls' coming home. Bah.

The good news is that the firm's holiday party is tonight. Should be fun!

I had my squash grand final tonight - we lost in a close contest. Life is busy.

We're getting a new puppy dog in a couple of days which is very exciting for the kids! They have decided to call her "Sammi" - we had absolutely no say in it! She's a cute medium sized labrador/poodle cross - a labradoodle, which seems to be all the rage these days. They're supposed to have a nice temperament, non-shedding, odourless coat etc etc.

Apart from all that - I've read about 3 chapters of AATE - I'm going slowly! It's good to get back into Donaldson.
