I hope that we will always observe Veteran's Day (what we call that holiday here in the US). The horrors of WW1 trench warfare and the poisons used on the battlefield should never be forgotten. Nor should the even greater horrors and huge sacrifices of WW2 ever be forgotten.
My father and my husband's father both served in WW2 (my father in the Army Air Force in North Africa, Italy, and Germany and my father-in-law in the Navy in the Pacific). I have taught my children to be proud, because both of their grandfathers helped save the world.
As a species, I hope we never commit atrocities such as the death camps and the rape of Nanking again (though various genocides since prove that perhaps we won't ever learn).
