It is cold, dark, and rainy here today.

Summer the sunset here is around 18h45 give or take. (Mid summer that is.) Winter it's around 17h30.

It's a bit more extreme here - mid summer sunset is about 9.30pm, winter is about 5.45pm

Add about half an hour to his numbers, and you have us. Depending on how far north you are, midsummer sunset between 2100 and 2200, in winter some day shift workers literally never see the sun other than through a window! It is dark when they go into work and dark when they get out!

Yeah, I'm not far enough from the equator to have a big difference. On the equator, there's almost no difference, and there's no real twilight or dawn either.

Never forget the first time I lived in the uk...arrived at 06h00, and at 22h00 the sun was still up...very odd.

Winter made a premature appearance today: Snow started falling this afternoon and is continuing. It's not the gentle kind either, but sticky wet snow driven by an unkind wind. Brrrr. It hasn't been a very enjoyable fall season: September was great, but so far October's been just a big chill.

Thankfully, so far we have only gotten a bunch of rain, no snow yet.

Further north in Michigan they are getting a snow dump today - down here only rain.

Everybody suffering from SAD needs to move to S. Africa.

It got cold here last night, with temps dropping into the 40s. I broke down and turned on the heat. It was bad enough that the cat's paws were cold when I picked her up...but then *my* feet got cold and, well, we can't have that! Sounds like we'll be in for some cold rain this weekend, conveniently while I'm in Roanoke for Family Weekend. Bah.

It's been down around freezing here every night for a couple of weeks. We had to turn on our furnace in late September.
