The most interesting thing I did today was stress alot picked up suit and ring which was fine but then got a phone call from the Irish embassey in London saying that I need a letter of freedom from them to marry in Spain :razz:Ialready have a letter of freedom from my priest in ireland and my priest in London , so then I had download documents filled them in then went to a solicitor and get them signed . Have to go to Irish Embassey tomorrow with all the paperwork and just hope they get them done for me quickly .
Because it seems I need to get my birthcert done with a special stamp so I,m just hoping to have it all done before I leave .

Oh Cleburne!
They sure did wait until the last minute to notify you of this, eh?
I hope all goes smoothly tomorrow.

Wow - that does sound like a crazy busy day. Hang in there! :huggles: :huggles: :huggles:

Got back home from the lakefront cottage last night - had a very peaceful and wonderful weekend. :D The cottage was perhaps 25 feet from the water. We spent a lot of time sitting outside watching the muskrats swimming and a brown raptor swooping down to catch fish. :)

Back to work today. :gag:

Today after work, as I was out doing some photography around the grounds of the Legislative Building, I was physically harassed by a native woman. A security guard on rounds saw the commotion and intercepted the woman. He asked if I wanted to press charges, but I declined. But what a complete loser that woman is for attacking random people on the street.

It may be that she had some sort of mental illness...many of the street people (of all races) around here have one. Not saying she was either a street person, or mentally/emotionally ill, but... :?

Well, she was trim, made up and neatly attired. I did not get the impression she was a vagabond. She looked like someone who just walking along like me - up until we passed and she suddenly accosted me. Looking back, maybe things would have gone smoother if I had tried to have some dialog with her, but she had aggressively grabbed me, and I was in no mood to be generous after that. I didn't smell any alcohol on her, so maybe she was high on something. Her ostensible reason for accosting me was that she wanted to look at my camera. Fine. But not by grabbing me and trying to reach my camera. Bah. Like Menolly said earlier: the things we put up with to enjoy our activities...

That stinks, MW. She could have been more polite about it, instead of grabbing you.

I got tapped to be a member of an advisory panel to help our Technology Training get a handle on what software packages and features they should be training secretaries to use. We met today for almost two hours, going over a list of software the trainers had come up with. I was able to get in a thinly-veiled request to win back from the Paralegal Department some things that secretaries used to do, until the firm realized that they could charge clients for those tasks if paralegals did them instead. My job has become significantly less interesting since that happened. And now, of course, with the economy as it is, clients are looking for ways to save money on their bills. It makes sense to me to transfer some of this stuff back to Secretarial (I'm talking about things like proofreading letters and preparing filings for federal agencies). I doubt anything will change, but at least I gave it a try.

I understand you, ali. Job stagnation isn't a good thing. Yeah, I'm one to talk: I've had the same job for years now. I'm just in it for the paycheck.

I stayed over an unpaid hour after work last night and looking forward to the same tonight. We (the employees) are putting togther the documentation to try to contact the Office of the Inspector General in Washington DC and get a couple of our bosses fired; not only are work conditions unbearable (to the point where we fear the chance of violence), but there has been a great deal of waste (causing tax payers tens of thousands of dollars) and a huge jump upwards in the error rate (including potentially fatal errors). Our bosses do nothing; their bosses will do nothing; hospital administration knows there issues but intends on cleaning up another department first (where there actually has been violence); employee assistence has told us to call IG...

IG is scheduled to come out in October anyway; we are hoping to get them to come in and start some investigations in our department.

Good luck, Duchess. :)

Seems ridiculous to ask for more work, doesn't it? The thing is that I have a paralegal certificate, but I took the legal secretary job because it paid better than an entry-level paralegal job, and I still got to do legal-related tasks. But my workload has morphed into stuff that's almost completely administrative (and largely tedious), and I can feel my brain rotting.... :( Switching to a paralegal job now would almost certainly mean taking a pay cut, which doesn't excite me. And there doesn't seem to be much in the way of job advancement for secretaries -- usually people make a lateral transfer to a secretarial position in a different department. Which wouldn't solve my problem.

Ah well. We'll see how things go.
