Well, as I said, that particular one was not even a YA, it was an outright children's book. So I can see how you might not have run across that one.

I caught the last half hour of WALL-E on an in-store TV, that didn't have the sound on. But the movie was visually concise and brilliant that I grasped what was going on, and it did tug at my heart. So I might have to put WALL-E on my movie shopping list.

Haven't read any of the Hugo winners myself, but Neil Gaiman's name is of course well-known to me - my being an admirer of his work in comics.

Also nice to see Nancy Kress's name up there.

Never read Gaiman Ali? For shame. I recommend him. Both his comics and his novels.

...and if you wanna try Gaiman's comics, I recommend his original 4-volume opus The Books of Magic. Aside from the great story, it featured some of the most beautiful artwork I had ever seen in comics at the time.

Actually, Menolly - I do not know if you can go wrong with Gaiman - his novels, YA and children's books, short story collections, and comic books are all outstanding. Just see what you local library has and start from there.

I never really got into the comics per se. I was lucky enough to find them all together as graphic novels, some from a library when I was living in London, and the rest from an avid fan who was a regular at the pub I was working in, so I never had to try and keep up with an ongoing publication.

Without seriously looking for Gaiman, I think what I recall seeing on the library shelf were graphic novels called The Sandman. Haven't looked at them though. Decent?
