Sorry to report that phpBB does not have the capacity to recover the lost threads (and there were many very good ones) in Gen. Sci-Fi. No one is to blame for what happened, if there was anyone responsible it was a spammer, and/or myself. I tried to resynchronize the forum (the admins had, at least, a view of the threads still being intact) and lost them. It's unclear that we could have recovered them from that view anyway.

That being said we need to get together with Syl and moonwatcher and work hard to attempt to recreate as many of these threads as we can. Fortunately we have the names of most, not all, of the authors involved in the forum description. Thanks in advance for your help.

Ah well, now we can get going on a bunch of new threads.

Is there no way we can recover some of the threads using what's still archived

I'll contact Vain about this-I doubt it's possible, but we could still copy and paste the threads...

If it's a copy and paste job, how would you do it? Paste all the posts in one response box, or what?

I would be happy to re-start any of the threads I originally started, if necessary. Just let me know.

Oh, y'all are talking about it here already. I've mailed Vain, but I see Danlo probably has too, no worries.

Actually, I think it should have a reasonable chance of working...those threads were already moved here once...why not again? And while it won't be everything, it should be a fair bit. Well spotted MsMary.

Ok, bad news...Vain can't find a way of only moving the sci-fi posts, and moving everything will delete existing ones, so that's no good. This means I'm gonna have to do it manually, copy and paste probably. It's not that many threads...lemme think about it.

You? Just you? Well it is your board after all... joking. Why don't the admins take turns moving topics over here (so it doesn't look like there's 15 new topics by Avatar) and then we can try to break them into individual posts (possibly posted by danlo, duchy, Av, MW and Syl).

I had a feeling it was copy and paste from the get go.

OK. I see how you did that, and it looks good. If it is a quiet night at work tonight, I will give it a try with a thread or two.

I also changed the title on the old board to "rescued" - if we do that with each thread we copy and paste, might cut down on confusion.

Good thinking...save us duplicating stuff by accident.
