Hi, everyone, sorry for my absence from the Hangar lately.

I am halfway through my first week alone in the house since my surgery 4 weeks ago. My hubby finally had to leave me to go on a business trip (up to now he was working from home and coddling me. :))

Doing okay so far, and was able to drive myself the one mile to physical therapy on Monday. I get to try that again today.

Plus trying to do some modest Passover cleaning.

How are you all doing?

Welcome back, MsMary!

I'm doing all right, but it's hectic at work right now, as we're in the middle of moving some of our offices to a temporary location.

Saturday, our interim move reached its dubious climax: moving a whole lotta remaining office furniture to long-term storage. Didn't do any of the moving myself, but I was there the whole day with others to help supervise things. Not the most fun thing to do on a weekend, but I'm glad that's over. (More or less).

Did you at least earn some overtime?

I hope they did pay you OT, Moonwatcher. (Yay for OT!)

I feel like I've finally reached the end of a long tunnel. We had our final Czech class of the semester on Saturday. Dunno why this has felt like such a slog this semester -- maybe because we met every Saturday with no weeks off. Anyway, the classes are on the north side of Baltimore, about 1.5 hours northeast of my apartment. As soon as class (and lunch, yum) was over Saturday, I got in the car and drove to Roanoke, which is about 3 hours southwest of my apartment. Mapquest sent me on a route that didn't go past the apartment, and actually saved me about 15 min. But still, it was a long day -- up at 6:30am, drive 1.5 hours to class, 2-ish hours of class, another hour or so for the luncheon, then 4.25 hours in the car to Roanoke. :nightcap: And I still wasn't done! Because then I had dinner with the girls, and then we saw "Chicago" (college production -- see below), and then I sat up and visited with Magickmaker for a couple of hours. :nightcap: :nightcap: :nightcap:

The Hollins Theater Dept. did a great job on the musical, btw. They brought in a professional choreographer and costumer. And the set was pretty darn amazing -- marquee lights, prison bars that raised/lowered like a curtain (the raising/lowering was Magickmaker's job ), and a section in the middle of the stage that moved in and out of the scene by hydraulics.

Yesterday we went out to brunch. Then Magickmaker went to the theater for the matinee performance, and I got to visit with Batty and Shara_Lunison for a few hours. Then I drove home. Pretty tired today....

Yes, I'm getting overtime pay.

Good grief, aliantha, that seems like an unreasonably long daily trek just for a Czech class. The teacher must be really, really good or something... :P

Glad everything went well at the college production of Chicago! I loved the movie version, but have never seen it live on stage.

Believe me, if anybody closer to home taught Czech, I wouldn't be making the schlep. Unfortunately for me, hardly anybody anywhere in the US teaches the language -- there are only something like 10 universities nationwide that even offer it. I was extreeeemely lucky to find the association in Baltimore. And anyhow, it's only once a week, ten weeks at a time. I don't have to do the drive again 'til September. 8)

The only reason I'm putting myself through this is that I want to visit the Czech Republic (hopefully) next year, and I have it on good authority (my cousin) that we have relatives there, out in the boonies -- some of whom don't speak any English. If I were planning to visit just Prague, I'd content myself with a phrase book. But I'd like to be able to talk to people, at least a little bit...

The stage script of "Chicago" has a different slant. Like the movie, it's got the "chorus girl kills her way into fame and fortune" theme. But it's more cynical -- more about how corruption makes the US great. It was written around the time Nixon was impeached, if that gives you any idea of where the playwright was going with it.
