Well, there's a definite chill in the air today...not having had a winter for two years, (what with being on the coast where there isn't one), I'm not looking forward to this one at all. 23°C today, but a cold wind is blowing. Of course, this being where it is, other parts of the country are having a heatwave.

Very nice yesterday -- temps in the 60s, clouds early but blue skies later on. Today, cooler and rainy. Tomorrow, we'll be lucky to see 50 degrees. Happy first day of spring.

That said, the temps are trending in the right direction, the daffodils are up, and the cherry trees are starting to bloom. So warmer weather is on the way for us.

We have been having the most snow free March on record, though much of the month has been chilly (today the temps are hovering around freezing despite all of the sunshine and it is expected to go down to around twenty degrees F tonight). That is not to say that it has been a dry month - we have had a ton of rain, and if it had been just a tiny bit colder when those storms came through, we might have had one of the snowiest Marches in history, instead. In fact, two towns south on the freeway (Dundee) was flooded and the downtown was closed off for a few days when the River Raisin flooded after torrential rains combined with snow melt.

We still have piles of snow and ice in parking lots, but most of the grassy areas are snow free now.

More rain in the forecast for next week, but no snow.

Right now, we have a 6ft base, with more snow due in tomorrow sometime.

Well, we're barely into spring and Southern Manitoba is already bracing for flooding. Some fear a flood as bad as the one we had in 1997 - the "Flood of the Century." However, there is only a 10% chance of that. Still, provincial flood forecasters are saying there is the potential for one of the most severe floods in years. We're expecting rain Tuesday, which will turn to snow by evening. Since the '97 flood, the gov't has spent a lot of money expanding the Red River Floodway, so Winnipeg should be well-protected. The Floodway can now apparently hold twice as much water as it did in '97. I'm not expecting to be submerged, at any rate...not in the middle of downtown!

The weather on Tuesday was a Hall & Oates song - "cold, dark and yesterday." In other words, freezing rain and ice pellets, plus a chilly wind. Today it's brighter, but only because we're now in the middle of a blizzard. Heh, welcome to spring.

Boy, the weather out in the Dakotas is so bad right now, with all of the snow and flooding, that it is even on the local news here in Michigan. Hope everyone out that way (and in Manitoba as well!) IS SAFE and on high ground.

Well, no blizzard, but we are in the midst of getting a couple of inches of snow tonight.

It was a beautiful weekend, but it looks like winter isn't done with us yet. We could be getting more flurries this week. I haven't seen for myself how high the Red River is, but the Assiniboine River that joins it is definitely starting to get too high for comfort. It's not that far from lapping at the feet of an apartment tower complex that overlooks the river.

Also saw pictures in the Free Press about the situation in Fargo. Wow...I hope they make it through. It looks pretty grim for them.

Another bad blizzard is now approaching Fargo, on top of all of the flooding.

It has been gorgeous the last few days. Today we hit 18 Celsius! Got my fingers crossed that winter has finally left (even though spring has officially been around for a month already). But I haven't put my boots away yet...just in case.
