I enjoyed it very much overall...and I'm not done with LOTR yet: reading the Appendices now! They are just as interesting as the main story.

I do intend to search out more Tolkien after I'm done with the LOTR appendices. The Silmarillion is definitely one I want to read, but I'm interested in all the other books that expand on Middle-earth's history. I've never read The Hobbit, mainly because I'm generally averse to anything regarded as children's literature.

We do have a Tolkien forum, you know...

I'm not that well versed in Middle Earth...
...and haven't read any Tolkien, except for Tree and Leaf while envisioning Niggle and what her particular version of hell would be for Purgatory, in years...

The Hobbit was one of, if not the, first fantasy I ever read. (In fact, IIRC, it was read to me by my parents.) I still love it and reread it every few years...it's presented as a childrens book, but it's far more than merely that.

Steven Erikson's monstrously long Toll the Hounds - over 1000 pages on very thin paper (think Bible paper) in hardcover.

I am in the middle of a short mystery I checked out of the library, but I think my next read after that will be The Hobbit. After all of this Hobbit talk, I cannot resist anymore.

It took me my entire week plus off of work to finish up Toll the Hounds, by the way. That book was monstrously long.

I have finished up my reread of The Hobbit, my first in many years. It still charms me greatly. Beorn - I had forgotten what a badass he is.

I am about to start a book I have been really looking forward to - Canadian fantasy writer (who only lives a couple of hours from here in London, Ont.) R. Scott Bakker's The Judging Eye. His writing is usually remarkably deep, and I am hoping simple exhaustion will not stop my read. Also, I did not have any time or opportunity to reread his Prince of Nothing trilogy, so I am hoping that will not hurt this read. It looks like this book takes place a good twenty years after that trilogy, though, so hopefully I will be OK.
