18 years MM? Wow. Still, it could happen to me...I get very comfortable and in a rut...then the company I work for goes under and I have to get a new job. Happened twice so far to me...universes way of telling me to get a move-on.

Yeah, it's inertia. I tend to stay in one place unless something pushes me in another direction. Maybe I lack ambition. I just don't want to be a ruthless SOB about my career.

Mind you, I don't consider my job to be much of a "career." But it will have to do for now. It pays the rent and allows me some disposable income to amuse myself with. I guess I should count myself lucky to have a steady job in today's economy (knock on wood).

Yeah...it's pure laziness on my part. Can't be bothered to find a new job when the old one is meeting my needs. Don't need much to be happy.

Well, finally, Grace is in day care and I'm at the tail end of this dam flu/cold that I picked up way back on election day from one of those dam voters. I felt fluish for about three days, fought it off and then it came back a started to kick my ass 5 days ago-it wiped out my muscles for most of the time and then my glands and sinus went crazy. Sleeping during the day for 2 days in a row really helped: now my sneezing and constant blowing are gone and I'm not sore, but my throat hurts a little bit and the skin on my nose is a wreck. Still it's great to be alive!

Tam's very good wearing her brace all the time and ready to kick my ass if she gets this cold. She's ironing and sewing curtains so she's very happy. Grace is great and loves to go to the park and slide, swing and run around like a manic. I'm very happy bopping about both discussion boards today-I do get inspired when people show their love of good literature.

Glad to hear things are going well. You've been a bit quiet recently.

Duchess, here is my advice to you about your workplace: Get. Out. Now. I have worked in several toxic workplaces. It's depressing and demoralizing. I've vowed to myself that I won't ever do it again. I'm too old to work for a@@holes.... If you're worried about getting another job in this economy, apply to a temp agency. They have temp agencies for healthcare workers, yes? That would put food on the table for you, while you decide whether you're burned out on the field, or whether it's just Snake & Co. that have you down.

Oh, and feel free to tell me to shut up.

Unfortunately, I work for the benefits much more than I do the money. I carry all of the health, dental, life, retirement, and vision insurance for my family. A temp agency would be fine if I needed money, but the agancies I am aware of around here do not offer bennies.

(Not that my 401k is work very much anymore. )

If Obama gets some sort of universal health insurance going, so my enterpreneur husband could sign us up, believe me, I would walk out the door of my current employer in a heart beat.
