Here's to Tam recovering quickly!! :mrsunshine:

and to Moonwatcher - my mom also has dementia - so far she still recognizes me, but my youngest brother she does not - she can only remember him as a little boy and when she sees him now, she asks me "Who is that man?" very sad. She is in good physical health, which is good, but her cognizance (is that a word?) is slowly slipping away.
my prayers to you for strength & peace.
Earthy

Moonwatcher and Earthy, I feel for you both. My mom also had dementia before she died in March. She knew us all, up until the end. Even so, the last time I went to see her (last fall), it was like the person I knew as my mom wasn't there any more. Very sad stuff. Hugs to you both.

Well, the person that I see already is a stranger. It's leprosy of the mind: I see a person whose sense of self has been truncated, who exists in a numb state. I suppose it's a kindness to her, to be spared the awareness of knowing what she has become. Although there is no avoiding the sadness of it all (for those of us who are aware), I don't let it burden me unduly. There's absolutely nothing I or anyone else can do about dementia (short of turning back time), so I won't torture myself over it.

In the past few months, I have had dreams that featured mom as I remembered her - feisty, independent. Not the shell that she is now. Those dreams were my way of saying goodbye to her, more eloquently than would be possible in real life.

Speaking of dreams, last night I had an incredible zombie dream. It was gory and nihilistic, but I wouldn't call it a nightmare since I didn't wake up in a cold sweat. It was just an over-the-top and rather intricately plotted dream. Just think 28 Days Later and that would be a fair summation. Though this dream had nothing ostensibly to do with mom, I mention it here because it's not a stretch - via dream logic - to go from thoughts of destruction of the mind to thoughts of soulless automatons destroying the (old) world. As I said, it was nihilistic. But a cool dream nonetheless. It would've made for a decent horror flick.

All right, enough of that. Looks to be a nice day, except for the wind. I'm heading out to enjoy the fall colours and hopefully snap some good pictures, if the wind hasn't blown away the foliage by then.

That sucks man, but I really admire your attitude! Chin up and all that crap. Last night I dreamed I was in a very liberal mental institution and my name was Bill. As soon as I got my head in the right situation and fought off the drugs I walked right out the main gates and no one stopped me. :danlo:

God I need a drink. I've got a freaking headache from trying to add a forum, renaming forums and deleting forums. Anyway the admins hope you like the new look, and that you'll frequent the new Malazan forum and all of QuickTime.

Heh, I just need the rain to stop so I can head out for more pictures. It's not a bad rain - gentle, but constant. (Starts contemplating buying waterproof case for camera...)
