Awesome, Menolly!

I haven't listened to AM/FM radio since the '80s, but HD radio sure sounds interesting.

Went to the park and zoo early this morning and spent 3 hours roaming around with my camera. Might post a few pics later. The weather's gorgeous, but I'm glad to be inside now. I've had more than enough sun for one day! I may head out again tonight for the fireworks, though our little displays pale in comparison to the American 4th of July pyrotechnics.

Did another 14 km walk as I'm going to do the City2surf fun run in 5 weeks time. (Obviously 'fun' is a relative term!), and got my time down to 2hr 5 mins. Legs are killing me!

We did yard work all day today. This spring/summer had been wet and stormy, and we finally had a nice day when everyone was home. We spent a lot of time digging baby oak trees out of flower beds - darned squirrels and their acorn stashes!

We're thinking of going to the Taste of Detroit at Comerica Cityfest tomorrow, but might end up doing more yard work instead... :? It is almost like a rain forest around here right now, with lots and lots of weeds growing... :?

The way a Taste of (insert city name here) works is that a bunch of restaurants from the area set up booths in the steer/park/festival setting. You buy a strip of tickets, then wander through the booths seeking out yummy things to eat. A small appetizer might be two tickets - a steak dinner with all the trimmings might be twenty. Most people graze on smaller items of different ethnicities just to get a taste of each. Since Detroit is such an ethnically diverse area, there is everything to pick from various Asian food booths to Southern soul food to Middle Eastern food to eastern European food to Carribean food to Ethiopian food, etc. Live music plays on a couple of stages while you wander around and eat. :)

On the other hand, while going would be a yummy good time, I really have a hankering for planting some lillies (I have developed a passion for lillies over the last 2-3 years) in the places where we dug out banks of baby trees...

edited to add:
I was planning on typing something up for the Donaldson forum on one of his short stories and typing up something for general science fiction today on one of Arthur C. Clarke's short stories...but real life got in the way today and probably tomorrow - and on Sunday it is back to work. But you guys can expect both sometime in the next week or so, as time allows. 8)

After working in the yard, I fell asleep on the couch for a few hours.   Getting old.

Was roundly abused by an oh so obvious transvestite when I couldn't let him use the ladies toilet in the local railway station. Honestly, he looked like a quarterback in a dress and make-up. I pretended that the toilet was shut for cleaning to save his feelings and was then blasted by a rich and varied barrage of swearwords (most unladylike!). i love my job!

Looks like it will be lillies today. :) Got some healthy Asian beauties in three different colors at the garden center this morning. 8) Also some Japanese iris, lavender, and red day lillies - hummingbirds love red day lillies. 8) :tam:

Have had a long day performing house work. The worst was scrubbing down a bathroom and toilet. :gag: I am hoping that since I got so much done today, that tomorrow I can treat myself to a genuine day off, where I can get caught up with my book log, upload more old pictures of New York and New Mexico online, and maybe even get a chance to do some creative writing... :)

Right now I am in desperate need of a nap, so will head upstairs to bed and a window air conditioner in a few minutes. 8)

It was a very good Friday. Weather-wise, it was beautiful: sunny but not too hot, just comfortably warm. A perfect summer day. Bought some CD's of artists who played at Folkfest. And went to the park. And generally took it easy. 8)

Best wishes for your cat, Cleburne!

It also rained here, but it was a nice kind of shower.

Went out earlier and snagged the new 2-disc editions of The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. I love these two films for their sheer popcorn entertainment value. :)
