Happy 2008 everyone!!!!

Things here are finally starting to settle down a bit, the holiday season is always chaos. Whew...when it's all said and done all I can think of is how much I could use a vacation just to recover from it all!

Anyway, we are literally buried in snow...15 ft around our neck of the woods, with avalanche warnings no less!!!

Russell had to break out the Snow Cat just to get the kids to the bus stop for school...they love it!! The boys especially....they are all excited about the amount of snow we have had, more so because they all got new snowboards for Christmas.

I'm jealous! We hit 85 maybe for about a week in August...hehe

Yes, it is eight degrees farenheit out there right now, and with a lot colder wind chill~!

We're all either getting over the nasty thing that has been going around (fever, entire body aches like someone has beaten you with a 2x4, very thick snot throughout the respiratory system giving sinus headache and unproductive coughing) - or are still fighting it off

I thought my older son would be spared the thing going around Ann Arbor/Detroit since he has been away at school, but he came home for the holiday weekend, and he is sick, too. Turns out the same nasty thing is going around the Indy area, too.

At least I can pamper the heck out of him for the long weekend.

I have been baking up a storm this weekend - not only yummy, but helps keep the house a bit warmer, too.

It's been quiet around here. How is everyone?

Man, those tornadoes down South last night did a lot of damage. My heart really goes out to the injured, the people who have lost their homes and businesses, and to those who have lost loved ones. And the rescue workers, who are now laboring to find the lost, people who might be trapped and injured in debris, and additional dead.

The area in Arkansas where my parents lived was hit pretty hard. While there were no towns particlularly close to their house, one of the closer ones, Cherokee Village, was pretty much destroyed according to CNN. The tornado followed the main highway through town - the one we drove on everytime we went to visit my parents - and levelled every business building but one.

Another tornado reportedly took out the area where my sister lived for a couple of years in Gallatin, TN. It not only hit her neighborhood, it even took out the campground on the lake where we would take the dogs for walks.

Somehow it seems sadder when you personally know some of the places destroyed.

Yesterday I took a course to get a re-certification card I need every two years for my job. After each section of the course, we needed to pass a test. One of the tests had the following as one of the choices to a multiple choice question: "Assess, blame, criticize."

I have to recertify for baby CPR in about a week...

Miss Grace has successfully pped in the potty twice this morning. Tam and I had full body massages and went out for Thai food yesterday. Called my Dad this morning and he's made it through my Mom's birthday OK. Now waiting for the tilers to show up to finish their work around the fireplace. Once they arrive Elora and I are going to the aquarium.

At 4:00 we're taking Luis and Amanda for the weekend as respite for another foster parent and we're waiting to hear word about Aiden who is a 4 week old Meth/Heroin exposed baby who's almost off Methadone-since none of his relatives are in any shape to care for him he may go straight to adoption with us and become Zachary Havelin. I may have a son and I've never ever seen him yet!!! 8O

actually, Ayize and Stephen did it themselves, they watched as we started showing Naeem how to use the potty and they wanted to learn too. It all went fairly quickly.

Meggie is next, but she's got about another year or so...
