Time didn't allow the movie to go into some of the more detailed and deeper portions of the book, but for the time it had it touched on the main spiritual points and succeeded famously. Scott Mechlowizc is a fantastic gymnast and a great Dan (Jack), Nick Nolte completely nailed Socrates--I mean completely--he was even in shape for the dang movie! It must have meant alot to him. You could tell that everybody involved with the movie took the story very seriously.

What's it rated danlo? Beorn's already got his assigned summer reading done before last school year ended, and as I mentioned on the Watch, this was one of the listed readings.

Should Beorn see the movie? Or should he wait until after it is discussed in school, so the movie doesn't color his discussions on the book when they do discuss it?

It's a DVD so I don't know the rating...there's minor foul language and some implied sex scenes. Have you, or he, read The Way of the Peaceful Warrior yet? The book is very life-changing everyone should read the book first---like The Celestine Prophesy knowing the book helps. This movie could stand on it's own to someone who'd never read the book, however.

Let him read it. Let him watch it. Being exposed to these ideas - getting him to think about them by any means - will help him when he is confronted with them in his life.

OK, I give up, let Beorn watch it. As a former, and future, educator my first instinct is to advise reading and process first, but after watching the movie a second time, with Tam, I say watch it everyday-until it really sinks in. I, suddenly, know what I'll be reading between now and Fatal Revenant.

Amazing how these actors who don't really fit the exact descriptions in the book meld into them. I imagined Millman as more plain looking, Joy as more voluptous and Soc as about 6' 3" skinny and long white hair in a ponytail-Tam imagines Soc as blonde, but as more of a Mr. Miagi type. If the movie was done right after the book first came out I could almost see David Carradine as Soc. Unfortunately Carradine became a bit of a characiture of himself in the meantime.

I'm very glad it was present day...the story is timeless but works best in the moment!

I used to think that Robert Drivas, who played Willie in The Illustrated Man was the only actor who could ever pull off Danlo in the Neverness series, but now I think Scott Mechlowizc can.

Make it a way of life, academics are secondary...take out the trash
