Welcome to the Hangar Yaloopy!!! What is NJO? New Jedi Order? And now Danlo looked in that direction, too. He remembered that snowy owls mate in the darkest part of deep winter, and so along with this beautiful white bird perched in a tree a hundred feet away, he turned to face the sea as he watched and waited.

Ahira, Ahira, he called out silently to the sky. Ahira, Ahira<i>Edited by: danlo60 at: 9/28/03 8:29 am

Nope haven't read too much NJO. But I've read about what Pellaeon does in that series. But that's about it. Further up, and further in!

"Come to Elfhand," the troll said.
The child thought for a while....
"N-no" said the child
"Why not?" said the troll.
"Mother made a jam roll this morning," said the child.

Ok folks I renamed this thread and I think it would be a good idea to talk about media tie novels in general. If anyone thinks this should get a seperate thread, go ahead YELL at me. If y'all think this should be in a different fourum, YELL at me. I promise I'll pay attention.

The history of media tie-in novels, AFAIK, started with liscensing by Paramount for Star Trek. Not at all sure, but I think I have heard something about tie-in books being written for some the radio serials of the 30s. If anyone knows, please contribute? (However, before WWII ppbk were much more rare than today) AFAIK, the initial ST novels were novelizations of existing episodes and adventures; however in the middle 70s or so James Blish (Cities in Flight series) wrote the first original adventure with the ST TOS crew (TOS = the original series). Since then the whole media tie-in books has become a submarket of its own. Some very well, known authors contribute stories, some already mentioned, but I'll add a few more names, Pamela Sargent, Kathryn Sullivan, Peter David, Yvonne Navarro, Nancy Holder, Christopher Golden. According to what I have seen, many series have been effected, SW, ST (all versions, including Enterprise), Babylon 5, X-files, BtVS, X-men, Dr. Who, Matrix, Charmed, Sabrina, those are the ones I directly know about. The types of books break down to two distinct types, novelizations of existing episodes and adventures, and new (novel) adventures.

let the discussion begin taraswizard

The only ones I am familiar with are the Star Wars and Star Trek ones, but have no doubt that they are popular for many different series. Authors who might be new and/or wanting to get a bit of exposure are probably quite happy to write them; the fans would be happy to get continuing advantures of their favorite characters/series; and the publishing companies would be happy to publish them, as they would come with built in name brand recognition and demand.

The Star Wars and Star Trek ones I have read are quite a mixed bag. Some are excellent. With some you have to wonder if the author ever even saw an episode or movie, or perhaps, saw completely different things in it/them that you did. A couple of these sorts of books really made me scratch my head and wonder if these are the same characters I know from the television? Or if only the names are the same?

Onr thing that has come out lately and is quite excellent is the Star Wars Clone Wars animated series, particularly the second part. The first part (available on dvd) is sort of a continuation of Episode 2 film and the the second part (also available on dvd) is what could be viewed as the first part of Episode Three film. My younger son and I are agreed that the second part of the animated series is far superior to the movies Episodes One and Two, and right up there with Episode 3. ******************************************************
