Here is a quote I like from The Tombs of Atuan

Quote:What she had begun to learn was the weight of liberty. Freedom is a heavy load, a great and strange burdern for the spirit to under take. it is not easy. It is not a gift given, but a choice made, and the choice may be a hard one. The road goes upward towards the light; but the laden traveler may never reach the end of it.

and

Quote:The Earth is beautiful, and bright, and kindly, but that it not all. The Earth is also terrible, and dark, and cruel. The rabbit shrieks dying in the green meadows. The mountains clench their great hands full of hidden fire. There are sharks in the sea, and there is cruelty in men's eyes. And where men worship these things and abase themselves before them, there evil breeds; there places are made in the world where darkness gathers, places given over wholly to the Ones whom we call Nameless, the ancient and holy Powers of the Earth befoe the Light, the powers of dark, of ruin, of madness...

and

Nice!
It's been so long since I've read the entire Tombs that I wouldn't be able to find those. But I love rereading the conversations between Arha and Ged. ____________

Did you have something specific in mind, and you're curious to see if someone else quotes the same thing? ____________

Oh, how the story continues!!! Incredible stuff!! And, assuming Tales From Earthsea is not one of the 4 you've read, you'll likely love the short stories (some are longish short stories) in it that are not part of the main story line, as Dragonfly is.

I've said it before, turn off your computer, right this second, and go to the store and get them!!! Come on! Get outta here!! ____________

Well, whoever it was who asked (I assume "Lord Pilot" is the equivalent of "Guest"?) for a cool quote from The Rule of Names, here's my favorite:Quote:"Because the name is the thing, and the truename is the true thing. To speak the name is to control the thing." ____________

I think he or she was probably a guest.
I hope they come back and talk about Earthsea some more.

A character that grows on you as you read through the earthsea books is Ogion. Atleast on me he did. I just read the bones of the earth and I liked it a lot. Just wanted to share my thoughts <i>Edited by: haerdalis09 at: 10/18/03 4:11 am

Bones of the Earth is a fantastic story, and Ogion is an awesome character!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ogion certainly needs a thread here. Please feel free to start one, since you brought him up. If not, I'll do it as soon as I can. Maybe this weekend, but I'm taking my daughter swimming right now. ____________

Okay! I am now halfway thru The Farthest Shore! I just LOVE Ged!

Quote:"Try to choose carefully, Arren, when the great choices must be made. When I was young, I had to choose between the life of being and the life of doing. And I leapt at the latter like a trout to fly. But each deed you do, each act, binds you to itself and to its consequences, and makes you act again and yet again. Then very seldom do you come upon a space, a time like this, between act and act, when you may stop and simply be. Or wonder who, after all, you are."

I thought this was just awesome. Are you who you are because of the deeds you have done? Or are you who you are just by being? Fascinating.

I'm not done with this book yet. And there are alot more quotes and comments I'll want to make when I'm done with all four of these first books. I just felt compelled to comment on that statement of Ged's. He is such an amazing character. He has a serene presence. Almost saintly.

Anyway, I'm loving this series. "And the glory of the world becomes less than it was."<i></i>
