I read the original Earthsea trilogy probably about the time I was in middle school. I was enthralled and moved. It's among my three favorite series. (Neverness and TCTC being the other two.) About twenty years later, for reasons I can't recall, I got the impression that I would like a book called the Tao Te Ching. As soon as I started reading it, I thought, "This is Earthsea!!!" (Also the original Kung Fu tv series.) I cannot imagine a better job of putting what everybody at my favorite websites is likely tired of hearing me call the "calm, deep wisdom of taoism" into a fantasy world of magic and dragons. Absolutely glorious!! Thanks for all the enjoyment and lessons I've gotten from your archipelago over my many years of re-reads.

She was amazing!!

There were so many people there! She didn't read from "Powers", she said "there was no place where I could break it down." So she read Gwilan's Harp instead. What a sad and beautiful story that is. I'll have to find it, she said she wrote it about 30 years ago. She read with such inflection and grace. I was so enthralled. It was fantastic. She then took questions, and I asked her about the SciFi channel's Earthsea fiasco, and what she could have done, if anything, to ensure artistic integrity of her work. And she replied "absolutely nothing. Once you sign away your rights, the publishing company can do whatever they want with your work. Even if you have a "consulting" clause in the contract, that only means that all they have to do is ask you how to pronounce a name, which they still got wrong, and that is all the "consulting" they have to do...it satisfies the clause."

I didn't get a chance to ask her your question Danlo, there were so many other people asking things. Sorry about that

However, I did mention you to her, Eric, when I went up to have her sign my copy of The Other Wind. Pretty much what you asked me to share with her and she was very gracious and said that she is "always a little overwhelmed when she hears about touching someone so profoundly with her writing." I also told her that you are the reason I started reading her and that I intend to read more.

It only lasted an hour and half, but it was a wonderful event.

Oh, and pics....well...my darn camera battery DIED!!! I was NOT happy!
