According to Facebook, Martin is down to parts of five chapters, and is aiming to turn in the manuscript by Dec. 31, 2010.

When he gets D&A, I'll allow myself to be excited. Not before then.

is there any surprise to anyone that here it is Jan 1, 2011 and still no update on progress on ASOIAF at the author's website?

Ser Scot said something on the Watch today about George being hospitalized for ecol i poisoning over the holidays, but also hinted that George has plans a major announcement on Jan. 9th...whatever that means...

Well, I am very sorry to hear that he has been sick!

We can all hope for ADWD, but it also might be a new Wild Cards book or anthology or something to do with the TV series. At this point I am actually afraid to get my hopes up.

According to George hizzelf on Not a Blog whatever this announcement was has been delayed as he recovers-he had a nasty infection, nothing weight or age related though...

Well, being sick (and it sounds like he was very very very sick) must have seriously delayed the Jan. 9 announcement. Cause here it is at the end of the month and no word.

You know, he updated it to give us the publication date, but when I checked last night, he still had not said that the book is officially finished.

That's exactly what I was saying earlier -- if he hasn't gotten D&A, then the July 12 publication date is just more smoke being blown. SRD has said it's about six months between D&A and publication. If Martin is still tweaking the book, there's no way it'll be released in July.

I hope the rumors that he's still working on finishing it are wrong. But the guy's got a lousy track record, y'know?
