Martin's still writing it. He's trying to get it finished by the summer, for a release toward the end of the year.

Well, the last couple of entries in Martin's blog certainly are not promising. Two entries ago he speaks of being ill and losing two weeks working time. In the latest he speaks of being pessimistic about meeting his deadline. Now, that deadline was to finish up the book before his trip to Europe. So if he misses that deadline, does it mean that it will delay the book My guess is that it would, and the date in October would be out.

Locus concurs with you duchy, slating DwD to be released in Oct. Sorry you're sick George and enjoy Portugal, it's a beautiful country.

I know you have great author friends but I wish you'd concentrate on getting the book done rather than all these Wild Cards/Hunters Run and god knows what else projects.

He is in the midst of editing at least two anthologies right now in the addition to the Wild cards stuff, is he not?

In his latest blog entry, Martin says that he has sasfely arrived in Spain - and confirms what everyone has suspected - the book is not finished. I believe Martin is scheduled to be traveling for a chunk of the summer. My guess is we're now looking at a 2009 release. But I would be delighted to be proven wrong on that.

Got the email today from Amazon confirming what we all knew anyway - no ADWD for October, and no known release date at this time.

His blog and website have not had much to say on the matter other than he is busy with his two anthologies, the latest Wildcard, ADWD, etc. etc. etc.

This is the second year in a row when Martin's US publisher has set a release date for ADWD in the fall. I believe it was October '08 last time, and it is October '09 this time.

Since Martin will be traveling in Europe again this summer, I expect that if he does not finish the book before he heads to Scandinavia, that date on the part of his publisher will again be inaccurate.

Note: he has every right to travel is he wants to. I just wish that his publisher would stop setting dates like this, as it pisses off more fans every time one of the dates comes and goes with no book.

Well, at least, on Blog/Not a Blog Martin's gotten over his flu and almost has his house reorganized and he says that he's writing very well all of a sudden. Let's take that as a very positive sign.
