I'm not as patient as I should be, so here's my entry:

Davos is brought back to Dragonmont aboard a Lyseni ship, dwelling on how Melisandre has (in his words) broken King Stannis as a man breaks a horse. He longs for revenge, after knowing his sons burned to death. He's also distracted slightly to realize he's lost his fingertips--his "luck"--during the battle. Salandhor Saan welcomes Davos with news, including how Stannis forever broods and the Queen's uncle Lord Alester is now Hand. Stannis himself sees no one but Melisandre.

Davos pretty much admits his plan to cut out Melisandre's heart at the first opportunity. He thinks The Mother (one of the seven) saved him for exactly that reason.

He goes up to the keep, has trouble being let it because most of those who knew him are dead. While waiting he meets and has a chat with Edric Storm, King Robert's bastard. He is very much like Robert, or Renly.

That's when Ser Axel Florent shows up and arrests Davos for his plans to kill the Priestess.

Jaime sees an inn. He's in a boat with Ser Cleos Frey and Brienne. At the inn they hear of a so-called "Lightning Lord" who cannot die--Lord Beric, who's been raiding further down the Trident. Thoros of Myr is with him.

Brienne buys horses and sells the boat to avoid Lord Beric on their way to Kings Landing. They leave as soon as they've eaten. Along the way, Briene and Jaime do a fair amount of verbal sparring. She finds him disgusting because he broke an oath. What he doesn't tell her is why he swore himself to the Kingsguard--in an attempt to stay near Cersei, and avoid wedding Lysa Tully. Neither does he mention how she reminds him of Tyrion in some way. But he also taunts her as a fellow Kingslayer, a charge she hotly denies. He likewise doesn't believe her story of a shadow killing Renly.

Which makes him remember his own act, how he had gone to mad King Aerys as the Lannister army attacked Kings Landing. Aerys had demanded to know whose blood was on his sword, asking if it was Tywin's. Jaime replied Rossart, the King's alchemist who had just been made Hand. His father's knights had found him over Aerys' body, wanting to know who should be proclaimed as King? Tywin? Robert? Or maybe young Viserys?

He had said "Proclaim who you like" and mounted the Iron Throne to wait and see who showed up first.

Hey no prob Zahir! We were due 4 2 new chapters!! I need all the help I can get, so volunteers r NEVER out of season! Just as long as we go in the right order and leave @least 4 days btween reads any1 is welcome 2 start, or lead, a read! In fact, since I'm going 2 b out of town 4 6 days, some1 else needs 2 start the next 1, next week!

Man word travels fast from the docks 2 the Holdfast! Poor Davos, Martin really shocked me again w/his arrest. Me no like Melissandre she 2 freaky 4 me!

I still don't like Jamie, but his side of the story paints a better picture of him Briene made the right move and (SPOILER!) we'll soon find out that agents of Beric r everywhere, and in fact sold them the horses! And now Danlo looked in that direction, too. He remembered that snowy owls mate in the darkest part of deep winter, and so along with this beautiful white bird perched in a tree a hundred feet away, he turned to face the sea as he watched and waited.

Poor Davos, to be thrown into jail so quickly after his last ordeal! He's one of the definate good guys, IMHO!

Oh, I agree totally! Davos is one of fave characters, and I've great hopes for him. Likewise Brienne--although in many way she reminds me of Eddard Stark with her single-mindedness. She really needs to learn some stuff about life, about ambiguity, and about complexity. Catelyn said it all--she's a Summer Knight, and Winter is coming.

Brienne reminds me of Dunk in The Hedge Knight, both are perhaps not the brightest kittens in the litter, but are both filled with honor and are just plain good people. Our lives are the songs that sing the universe into existence.~David Zindell

Mel is pretty formidable - and nasty. But Davos is certainly a survivor.
