Read just the first little bit today - I need to finish up a library book before I really start reading it - and already have questions. |

Paran went into Rake's sword waaaaaaay back in GotM. And they discussed it a good deal in MoI. No, not a fun place. |

I only vaguely remember those parts - I wish I had had a bit more time for a reread before tackling this - but I'm getting enough to keep going forward. |

Is the timeline of this book messed up a bit in regards to the other books in the series? |

OK, finished up. There were some things in this book that were very well done - such as the parallell stories of children estranged from their parents The last two hundred pages were...WHOA!!! After all of the slow buildup it was great to get to the point where all hell started breaking loose all over the place. I just wish the timelines made more sense. And other stuff, too like: I know that a series this long and convoluted and with two authors is going to have timeline messups and continuity issues. I strongly urge Erikson and Esslemont (not that they would listen to me since I am a total stranger! ) to consider hiring a continuity editor to keep things on track a bit better. A lot of authors actually do this once their series get long enough - they actually pay someone to keep track of niggling details like character appearance and ages, etc. Two examples I can think of just from the top of my head are Rowling (Harry Potter series) and Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse series). Anyway, it certainly would not hurt. |

Maybe girls mature faster than boys.... I wish I could answer your other questions, but it's been too long since I finished TtH. We need for Murrin to stop by.... |

Yeah, there's been that sort of thing before, too. Fiddler's age, for example. But I just pretend not to see it. Otherwise, it would be harder to enjoy the books. |

Like I said, these things are probably inevitable given the complexity of the series, the sheer length of the series, and the ginormous cast of characters - not to mention two writers working on long novels simultaneously. |
