Rhulad meets with his brothers. He speaks of love, but asks Trull how long Trull will push him. And he admits to Fear that taking Mayen was a terrible mistake. he has Udinaas explain to fear that Mayen is lost and miserable and pregnant and that she had loved Fear all along, not Rhulad. Rhulad is willing to give back mayen and her child, while awknowledging being the biological father of the baby. But Mayen is so drug addled and addicted that her life might be beyond help - and the baby shares its mother's addiction.
They are getting ever closer to Letheras.
In a nearby town, the locals have released a powerful being called a Forkrul Assail from its imprisonment. It kills Rhulad, and the remaining Edur send the two demon warriors after it.
The people on the Cripples God's island are beginning to feel very sorry for Rhulad...
Seren and the Crimson Guardsmen reach Letheras before the war reaches the city. they escort her to her house and leave her there in safety, while they go to find their employer.
