Back to the Letharii.

War is coming ever closer.

The high mage seems to have gone mad. He is spending all of his time mumbling over a flagstone rather than trying stop the invasion.

Bugg explains to Tehol that the Hold of Death is coming to their part of the world. he explaisn how the Jaghut had frozen the pathways of the dead, but that the magic is now quickly unravelling. Since Tehol does not know what a Jaghut even is, the explanation is mostly lost on him. Tehol is concerned about his dead thief, but Bugg reassures him that she will still be walking dead because of the curse.

It turns out that the Queen's First Consort is a lot more than a pretty party boy. He seems to know more about what is going on than anyone but perhaps Bugg. And he says that he must becoem involved due to the coming jhek (wolf soltaken) army marching as allies to the Edur.

He meets with Bugg at the Azath, and they agree that something must be done about the coming wolf soletaken army. Bugg thinks that he (the First Consort) is a god, and one that feels guilty right now over what is going on in Letheras.

The god of the jheck is in the city. It worshippers cannot meet up with it, or disaster will follow.

The First Consort goes to the best fighter in the Letharii forces after Brys (whi is bound to stay with the King), and asks him to kill the god.

Bugg stays on at the Azath to talk with Kettle, who is now fully alive. He warns the five very evil dead things still trapped - five gods of the Toblakai - that they must not harm Kettle, or the Forkrul Assail in her will awaken.
