Ahira's Hangar

This is by far my favorite part of the entire book.

Six Edur, including all four sons of the Sengar family, go out onto the ice fields on a mission for their king.

While there Rhulad falls asleep on watch, and this is something he will never be able to live down.

On the way to their goal and back, they must fight off wolf (or possible direwolf???) soletaken.

They also face natural dangers, such as huge fissures in the ice, and see wonders, such as entire herds and packs of animals frozen in the sheets of ice.

What have they been sent to get? A mysterious gift for the Warlock King. They do not know who the gift is from, or how it got there. They only know that they are suppose to retrieve it, and never touch it with their bare flesh.

Rhulad, of course, screws up. While fighting the soletaken, he grabs the gift -a weird looking sword - and fights with it. Even though he is killed, the others cannot get the sword out of his hand.

On the way back they have to struggle in a huge winter storm as well as face constant attack from the soletaken. Trull gets separated from the others, and ends up being the focus of the attacks while the rest get free. Somehow he fights his way out of the endless ice and the endless storm and the endless attacks and rejoins the others to return to their village.

Just read this, it's a good chapter. Although I think that the chapters in my book don't coincide with the ones in yours - so I have to be careful reading this summary. I'll have to check which chapter number I'm actually up to, but my chapter ends at the first part of your Ch 9 summary...

I wonder why it took so long for Rhulad to reincarnate the first time, seeing as it seemed to be pretty quick when he was fighting against the "champions"?

Nice touch covering him in coins first though.

Yeah, I wondered about that myself. I mean, the first time was literally days, if not longer.

Maybe the magic gets stronger with each use?

Or it took longer for the Crippled God to set it in motion the first time, maybe.

I always assumed it just took Rhuad longer to deal with at first. But I don't remember anything saying his first stay in the Crippled God's realm was particularly long.
