New news from an interview with Esslemont:
he is working on a Malazan novel called Stonewielder, to be set two years after Return of the Crimson Guard in Korel

also, his first two novels have finally been picked up for US release by Tor

So I am adding the new book to the previous list. Which gives us:
CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER OF THE MALAZAN BOOK OF THE FALLEN
BBS: Before Burn's Sleep
BS: Burn's Sleep

??? BBS: Prologue I of Midnight Tides/Prologue I of Reaper's Gale*
298,665 BBS: Prologue I of Memories of Ice
119,736 BBS: Prologue II of Memories of Ice
1154 BS: Prologue of Gardens of the Moon
1154 BS: Night of Knives

1154 BS?: Blood Follows**
1154 BS?: The Lees of Laughters End
1158 BS: The Healthy Dead

1159 BS: Prologue II of Midnight Tides
1161 BS: Chapter 1 of Gardens of the Moon
1161-62 BS: Midnight Tides
1162-63 BS?: Prologue and Book I of House of Chains***

1163 BS: Gardens of the Moon
1163-64 BS: Deadhouse Gates/Memories of Ice (occur simultaneously)

1164 BS: Books II-IV of House of Chains

1164 BS?: Prologue II of Reaper's Gale

1164-65 BS?: The Bonehunters
1164-66 BS?: Return of the Crimson Guard
1165-66 BS?: Reaper's Gale
c. 1166-67 BS?: Toll the Hounds

Still to come:
Dust of Dreams
The Crippled God
Stonewielder (in about 1168 BS?)

edited to add:
I have not linked to the interview, as there is such a ginormous spoiler in it for Return of the Crimson Guard. :?

You never did one for-DG?

What's the order in which all the Esslemont books came out, including Stoneweilder? They never wrote a book together did they? :?

Night of Knives was first, then Return of the Crimson Guard, and now Stonewielder. And no, I don't think they've written anything together. I think they've sort of divvied up the story instead.

The weird thing is that Erikson has moved on to different empire in the same world (Lethar) starting with MT and dealt extensively with that along with overseas Mezlan issues while Esslemont has picked up the big doings back home in the Mezlan empire in his books. :?

Danlo, I ran out of steam before I got to DG, but it is my favorite of the series, so will probably get to it someday. :) If you want to do the chapter summaries, please feel free. 8)
