I'm not familiar with Frederik Pohl's works, but definitely plan on reading The Last Theorem.

I really had no idea that Clarke's health had deteriorated so much in his final years. But then, he wasn't one to publicize that sort of thing.

My copy came in the mail yesterday but I have not even had much of a chance to look at it yet...

Pohl is perhaps best known for Gateway and its sequels. Gateway is a true classic, and if you're ever in the mood, it is well worth a read.

You have the book already? I guess you pre-ordered online. I'll get it when I see it in the book store.

I had ordered it from the Science Fiction Book Club to save a bit of money. My guess is that it is either already in the stores as well, or will be shortly.

I did read the cover blurb a little while ago - sounds like a First Contact story, which both authors do very well.

I finally got a chance to start reading it today - only the first two prologues - but I love how both authors have already woven their personal stories/histories into the novel.

Nice change of the usual pace to have an Asian hero and setting.

The only other serious science fiction book I can remember which had an Asian main character was a great little book by Ursula K. LeGuin who had an Indian (Asian) heroine who grew up in Canada.

I think I'll wait for the paperback. I have a policy of not buying hardcovers...unless I find them at clearance prices. But I'm glad you're finding the book interesting.
