Post subject:  the last breakfast! - the colonoscopy thread

I have to go in for a buttscope in a couple of weeks. YUCK! It will be on a Thursday morning, so thought my last real meal before the "cleansing" day on Wednesday (I do not want to get any further into that topic, as it would be TMI) would be a late breakfast/early lunch on Tuesday.

So what do you guys think of these ideas? :)

I am not a big sweets fan, so a "hearty" breakfast of eggs benedict, corned beef hash, and latkes with apple sauce and sour cream appeals. Maybe a fresh baked chocolate croissant to top it off...

Otherwise, if I had a decent Jewish deli nearby, it would be smoked fish of various kinds with bagels, bialys, and cream cheese! Whitefish chubs, belly lox, sable, along with lettuce, sliced onion, capers, olives, cole slaw, potato salad, sour tomatoes and pickles...yummm...

Sorry, I could not do fish for breakfast.

When we went to New York, we rescued Danlo from his parents' apartment and take him out to breakfast, as they were feeding him "health danishes" topped with fish for breakfast. :o

It's probably an acquired taste...

But smoked fish, or kippers and eggs, or a leo (lox, scrambled eggs, and onions)...
that spells "childhood" to me.

Try crocs - they are the ugliest shoes in the world, but they are incredibly comfortable. Pretty much everyone in the hospital where I work wears them - they are like having shock absorbers at the bottoms of your feet, which is a gift of pure goodness when you stand and/or walk for 8-12 hours at a time. And the OR staff loves them because you can also throw them in a dish washer to sterlize them.

I don't know Tim Horton's. But my mother's maiden name is Horton, so... If it was Krispy Kreme, I'd maybe vote for that. But IHOP is a great place. I'd probably go there. You can have the eggs, the biscuits & sausage gravy, the pancakes/waffles/french toast... Impossible to go wrong.

Hey, I had a Cinnamon Crunch bagel from Panera the other day. OMG!!! I never had a bagel from them before. And the people who brought them all to work said the French Toast bagel is even better!!

And as a survivor of three such procedures, I'm here to tell you it's nothing. Nothing at all.

Usivius has been sending me virtual Tim Horton's on FaceBook; they look fabulous, but again, I am not really a sweets eater for breakfast.

Fist, are Panera's bagels true bagels? I've been worried they're the oversized cake-like bagles like Einstein Brothers, etc. Or would I approach them more like a pastry than a bagel?

As far as IHOP, they're good for variety. But, if there are any in the area and you have the choice, go to instead. When we go to south Florida for Passover, I do my darndest to get there at least a day before the holiday starts, so in the morning before Erev Pesach we can go have breakfast there. We don't have an OPH within an hour or so of here, so it is a rare treat...

Heh, the Tim Horton's brand makes a lot of Canucks feel patriotic, for whatever reason. Or at least warm and fuzzy about their country. But honestly, Tim Horton's doesn't inspire such patriotic fervor in me (shrug). It's just a coffee/donut shop, for pete's sake. Their Timbits are undeniably delectable, but for coffee, my favorite is Second Cup (the other national coffee shop chain).

*wry grin*

Sorry...must be the Brooklyn Jew in me... ;)

Your response is the typical one I get, from those not raised with Brooklyn Jewish deli from birth, I guess.

...ah well...

I am not sure what a true bagel is, either, but Panera's bagels are in no way cakelike, if that helps.

Fist, there are few Krispy Kremes around here - the closest are in Toledo, Lansing, and there is one in Downriver. All are a good hour away each way on busy freeways... :? If it were not a work day, maybe.

The only donut chain we have around here is Tim Horton's. That and good local bakeries in Dexter and Milan make donuts.

Fist, someplace around here I posted a recipe using Panera bagels. It is a bit time consuming to make, but is one of the best breakfast things I have ever had to eat (a friend made it for a brunch at his house once).

This is for Fist (disgustiing and TMI so if anyone else looks, if you are grossed out it serves you right!):

Ah. I assumed this was the first time you were getting what, at our age, will be a regular procedure. Since it's happening because of a problem, I guess you have extra trauma right from the get-go. :(

Okay, you guys are freaking me out just a little. I should have this procedure even if my bowels are in apparent working order? And at what age should I start being concerned? I turn 38 this year.
